A special corner for pictures

Canepa Designs, a highly specialized exotic / collector car restoration / racing preparation and sales organization moved into their new quarters in Santa Cruz, CA a few years ago. They located an unfinished electronics manufacturing complex at the perfect stage of completion where custom touches for their own needs could still be sensibly incorporated.

Since much of their business is conducted world-wide it absolutely requires photographic documentation to prospective clients, thus it was decided to provide a dedicated space for the best possible & most effective photographs to be taken of their inventory.

In one corner of the shop the corner at the meeting of vertical concrete wall and floor was radiused, smoothed and all of it painted in epoxy floor paint to eliminate shadows and difficult reflections.

As a sample I had the chance to shoot this recently refreshed Bugatti Veyron…….almost looks as if it's floating in mid-air.

Thanks for the back story. I enjoyed the photos. I am a bit surprised a yellow tone was chosen for the photography corner, especially considering the potential buyers are off-site and making purchase decisions based heavily on the accuracy of photography. Maybe a white or light grey color would offer more accurate color rendition.

My son (a true performance car guy) and I drove there for a look awhile back. Unfortunately it was closed, but we'll try again. Thanks for posting these.

Larry,

for the last two years Canepa has done a "Cars & Coffee" gathering from 8:00 AM to about noon on the morning of the second Satuday of each month, usually beginning with April, and on through October.

I haven't had a chance to check his website recently to see if this will be continued this year, but if it is, you and your son shouldn't miss it. They throw open the shop, their famous museum and the cars in the parking lot and in the showroom make this a most worthwhile trip.

Best,

I hope you insisted on driving it into and out of your studio--the long route.

Very nice shots! I'm curious about the color balance here. Is the wall and floor actually yellow/green, or should it be neutral (as below)?

It should be and will be when it's all finished in the near future. The above photos are pretty much as they came out of the camera. The raher unattractive yellow-olive shage shown is high-strength epoxy floor paint, which will be painted a more neutral shade eventually, once the proper lighting is installed and the 'booth' is completed.
