Leica d-lux 6 question ?

Hi, my first post and not wanting to feel the wrath of regulars, I'll try and word this carefully. I'm about to buy a Leica D-Lux 6 (Probably one of the cheapest ways to enter the Leica family ?) However, the Lumix LX7 is apparently practically the same camera but half the cost. If I was to buy the later, would I be able to post images on the forum given the fact that it has a leica lens ? (Think I know the answer already ). Or is it that, if I really want to be part of the "club" it has to have the red spot ?

I would of course prefer to have the real deal but £300 a lot more money to find ?

Your thoughts, please.....

Hi, the forum rules are 'a Leica camera and/or lens' must be used, so Panasonic cameras with Leica branded lenses are OK.

Panasonic make them all, cameras and lenses. The Leica versions have better PP software if that's important to you.

As a newbie perhaps have a read through the forum rules http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/6909-rules-leica-forum.html

The D-Lux by Leica comes with Lightroom the panasonic does not, it's a if I recall correctly 129 dollar piece of software... also I think the Leica looks nicer, and I think their warranty is better. Plus it retains value longer, the panasonic loses it when you walk out the door of the store.

Also the packaging is nicer!!! haha

But will it take better pictures, I doubt it. None the less the D-Lux 3 I got my dad is still nice and works, :)

I've bought a D-Lux 6, just waiting for it to be delivered. I have Adobe CC membership, so have full use of their software anyway. But I wanted a Leica, cost really didn't come in to it at the end of the day.

Just looking at the gallery images now, so can't wait to start shooting.

Thanks for confirming what I was thinking ....

Sounds good, I can't wait to see some of your results. I hope you will enjoy the camera I think it is a splendid camera with a large maximum aperture. I think it's one of the best compacts out there.

Welcome to the forum

I have a D Lux 6 as well as my point and shoot; before that I had a Panasonic LX5 as my point and shoot (aka D Lux 5); a great little camera. So is the D Lux 6, and with the ability to use f1.4 at wider focal lengths.

I'd highly recommend the electronic viewfinder EVF3 with the D Lux 6. For me, it really makes a difference to the shooting experience, particularly in bright conditions. And the good news is that you can use the much cheaper Panasonic version - the DMW- LVF2 - which is identical but obviouslty not Leica branded.

If you are in the UK, check the London Camera Exchange website; one of their stores has a used Panasonic one for a good price.

Enjoy your camera, and do post some shots here.

Regards
