I have those two lenses as well and can confirm that the Summarit is more contrasty and has less flare than the Summicron.

But the Summicron in sharper at f/2.8 and above on borders and corners. Easy to check with an FF body, less so with an M8 though.

Contrast being easy to tweak in PP, the only serious flaws of the Summicron are CA, but the Summarit is hardly better, and flare where the Summarit excells but the 40/2 is not worst than the Summicron 35/2 v4 from this viewpoint.

Bokeh wise i find the Summarit smoother than the Summicron in general but the latter's is rarely harsh in my experience. Matter of tastes anyway.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but thank you @620max for the great comparison!

I have the 35mm summarit-m f2.5, and just got my hands on the 40mm summicron-c. From what I can see, at equal apertures they seem very similar, with the summarit-m having cooler colors and a little more contrast.

Wide open at f/2, the summicron-c does seem a little soft, but who knows, if the summarit-m opened up to f/2 results may be similar. I do notice the summicron-c tends to have a "glow" around bright highlights in certain lighting. also wide open at f/2, the bright points of light when defocused seem to form a bright halo on the edges, but those seem to disappear once stopped down even slightly.

It's a tough choice right now deciding which is my "glue on" lens! The extra half stop of the summicron-c and its compact size is excellent, but the summarit-m seems to have a slightly cooler/more neutral color rendering with a little more contrast and richness in midtones.

Now that you've had the two lenses for a while 620max - which do you prefer shooting with?
