rgacpa Posted March 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) With an EVF mounted there seem to be three modes of live view the M cycles through. First press of Live View button and the image appears the last place used with Live View (either the LCD or the EVF). The next press of the Live View button displays the image on the other place (EVF or back LCD). Finally with the third press of live view, the image appears on neither. In all three modes, the shutter appears to remain open and the time to capture the image is a bit longer than without Live View. It seems that when no image is displayed in Live View mode, either the EVF or LCD, the only difference is the sensor is not powered up. Is this so? Does it save battery life if the sensor is off? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any assistance, Bob Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

jaapv Posted March 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2014 It depends on the metering mode chosen too. Advanced will keep the shutter open as well.
CheshireCat Posted March 4, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2014 Does it save battery life if the sensor is off? Yes. Also, keeping the sensor on for a long time will increase heat and consequently noise. Not a big deal, but the difference between a cold and a hot sensor may be noticeable especially when shooting in the dark.
arthury Posted March 4, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2014 Isn't the sensor always ON when using EVF?
luigi bertolotti Posted March 4, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 4, 2014 Yes... keeping the sensor on (with shutter open, of course) is the only way to have an operating EVF
