caparobertsan Posted February 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) It was a while ago some had sent email to Leica and asking about new FW so he can use latest lenses( Camera can recognize lenses):mad:
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hi caparobertsan, Take a look here What had happened to M8 FW for newer lenses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted February 28, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2014 I doubt any updates will be issued after such a long time of obsolescence. But it might be worth asking the question of Leica because the M8 is still an entry level camera for new buyers into the Leica system.
jaapv Posted February 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 28, 2014 Even if the camera was discontinued just over four years ago, that should not be considered old in Leicaland. Imo Leica should keep the firmware up to date for lenses for a long time in the future.
UliWer Posted February 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2014 Just out of interest: which new lenses are not detected by the last firmware-version (2.014)?
hoppyman Posted February 28, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2014 Of course there is no 6 BIT support for the non-Leica lenses mentioned though. Nokton 35/1.2, Nokton Classic 40/1.4, Biogon 35/2. AKAREX + schneider-kreuznach Xenon 50/2.0. There was a table available here at some stage that had suggested substitute settings. Sorry I'm not sure which page is hosting that currently. Someone will post on this maybe? EDIT: Jaap just posted this in another thread http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/leica-lens-codes/ If you have one or two coded Leica lenses not in the M8 firmware could you alter the coding to an equivalent with same focal length?. You need frameline agreement. You won't get the right name reported in EXIF but you should get functional correction and a means to identify which (substitute) you used. I'm a bit rusty, but I recall that even with the M9 there were no manual selection options for lenses that were never available as non-coded versions. caparobertsan Posted March 6, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks! Nah~ I was just wondering. Leica replied saying they will release new FW if new lens was released. SO I was just wondering what had happened to that promise.... I guess, I need to Use my Leitz CL camera now.
UliWer Posted March 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... if new lens was released. When the 21mm Super-Elmar was released, they updated the firmware to 2.014. This was 2 years after the M8 was discontinued. I am not sure whether the 50mm Summicron ApoAsph is detected by the M8, are you missing the code for this lens in your firmware? Which other newly released Leica-lenses do you miss? hoppyman Posted March 6, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2014 and you would have to think that the APO Summicron M 50 ASPH is not going to get a lot of correction in camera
UliWer Posted March 7, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 7, 2014 and you would have to think that the APO Summicron M 50 ASPH is not going to get a lot of correction in camera I stand corrected - though lens detection is not for correcting a lens, it's for the EXIF. hoppyman Posted March 7, 2014 Share #10 Posted March 7, 2014 Sorry, I don't follow exactly what you mean there, UliWer. I was trying to say that the specific corrections (for vignette for example) done in firmware would not make any difference to the results with that lens. Obviously the design is optically superb and of course it is a 50mm in any case. You can only notice any significant difference with wider angle lenses. As you say, it would only matter for the convenience of having the lens information in EXIF.
caparobertsan Posted March 13, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted March 13, 2014 Actually there is no other lens needed for my camera. I am happy with What I got for now. Economy is no good so I won`t be able to buy another Digital Leicas. I wish they will release better version of New M( without any Bull function such as video and live view) I was thinking of Summicron M28/2 and M35/2 but When I played again with my Elmarit M28/2.8- M8 combo, I was happy with it! russell c. greenberg Posted September 21, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2014 Caparobertsan, They just released a version of the M w/o live view or video. Unfortunately, it also has no monitor and is a limited edition of 600 pieces and costs somewhere around $16K. I guess that it will be on collectors' shelves. This special camera is the "M60".
