bill Posted February 20, 2014 Share #21 Posted February 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...I have just gone back to using a D3s and I would say that 50% are usable compared to the new M............... I had low standards once too. But I was a teenager using a disc camera in those days. Sent from another Galaxy

platypus Posted February 20, 2014 Share #22 Posted February 20, 2014 To reiterate; Leica M series cameras are not for everyone.
erl Posted February 21, 2014 Share #23 Posted February 21, 2014 A 'hit rate' is not camera dependent. It is photographer dependent. The photographer knows what he/she is shooting. The camera does not. Choose the right tool or the mistake is your fault. Don't expect to use a hammer to drive home a screw. Moral: Keep your tool box full and choose wisely when taking one out. Same goes when taking out women.

Guest redge Posted February 21, 2014 Share #25 Posted February 21, 2014 Why do people keep responding to WDWgolf's original post? He did not offer a single reason for his dissatisfaction, and hasn't since. If you look at the posts that he made in the two hour period around when his original post in this thread was made, you will find that he posted several hits on people who had posted photos in the photo forum. What's characteristic about the posts made in this time frame is that they were all about lashing out and that none of them expressed reasons. If you look, you'll find that one photographer whose work was attacked responded, and in a quite appropriate manner. There was no point to this thread, and there's no point to the responses. If anything, most of them are smug, failed attempts to be "smart", and more pathetic than the original post. Maybe just drop it.
CheshireCat Posted February 21, 2014 Share #26 Posted February 21, 2014 perhaps the higher success rate with the Nikon is due to the fact that there is less input from you, and more from Nikon. With an iPhone, one could get close to 100%

platypus Posted February 21, 2014 Share #28 Posted February 21, 2014 NDWgolf was always going to reach this point in his relationship with his M. That fact became obvious when he spat the dummy after climbing down that cliff in Bali last year, risking life and limb as I seem to recall. That episode, and his feelings about the camera at the time, were well recorded on this forum.
jto555 Posted February 21, 2014 Share #29 Posted February 21, 2014 During an interview about HCB, Richard Avedon said if he had 10 in a lifetime he would consider himself a success! Not great odds if you are a wedding photographer. "Great news Mrs Bride, I get one good shot ever 3 1/2 years and guess what? I took it at your wedding! Unfortunately it was of the bridesmaids and not you, but its still a great shot..."

My favourite wedding photographer shoots Leica: new york wedding photographer It was only recently cameras started to have double SD card slots. I would be happy to shoot a wedding with the 240. Like any professional photography you would need 2 cameras. A 21mm f1.4, 24mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4, 90mm f2 and R 180mm apo would be the perfect wedding kit. This would require a top photographer. An easier life would be a 5diii and 24-70mm II, you would have a higher volume of photos but I bet the quality wouldn't be the same. LocalHero1953 Posted February 21, 2014 Share #31 Posted February 21, 2014 Out of the 12 pictures that I took of various things only 2 were usable and that was in symphony.I have just gone back to using a D3s and I would say that 50% are usable compared to the new M...............yes I like it because the case looks and smells good but apart from that it sucks as a camera I'm a bear of very small brain and I'm puzzled by your prepositions and comparative statistics. What do you mean "in symphony"? Do you mean that with your Nikon you get 50% of the success rate you had with your Leica, or the other way round, or do you just mean that while you got 2 out of 12 with the Leica, you would have got 6 out of 12 with the Nikon, or the other way round. Which camera sucks? What case are you talking about that looks and smells good? Leica? Luigi? Billingham? Nikon? Can you clarify?

CheshireCat Posted February 21, 2014 Share #34 Posted February 21, 2014 I would be happy to shoot a wedding with the 240. The 240 could lockup at the decisive moment, and require removing the battery to power cycle it. Remember to bring your Canikon too.

As a wedding photographer, I wouldn't wish that to my worst enemy. If one really needs all these focal lengths to do a job, and one as fast paced as a wedding, maybe a zoom should be considered... My wedding kit is 21, 50 and 85. You can see some of the results on brightnewkey.com if you're curious. Sorry for being off topic, but I figured this thread wasn't to be taken at face value... Back on the M240, I'm planning to buy one soon and use it for weddings this season, but all these reports of lock-ups, freezing, oil on the sensor, I'm starting to get cold feet... Surely some of you manage to work with that camera without issues, right?
