R8 dead/seized up

Just sold my R8, and was checking everything out prior to packing it for shipment. Fired off several shots with the winder attached, and all seemed normal. Then one more shot, and it just died. The mirror is stuck in the up position, and all controls are unresponsive. Removing/changing batteries does nothing. The film advance lever has no tension.

It's a 243xxxx serial number.

Any idea?

I did try regular batteries too.

I've found some minor references to early R8 having their ROMs incapacitated by the winder, but it was several years old, so I was hoping someone might have found a solution since then.

I'm afraid I may now have an expensive German-made paper weight.

Just a "forlorn hope" suggestion based on the vaguest recollections of what I might have read elsewhere (but it's a shot to nothing anyway). Put normal batteries in with no winder attached. Please make sure that the "double exposure" lever hasn't got displaced slightly from the "off" position. Try winding on the film advance sprockets and/or take-up spool from inside the camera, to see if it frees anything up. I don't hold out a lot of hope, but it's maybe worth a try.
