John in Japan Posted April 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Went on a shoot today. Had the camera on "S" and probably hadn't taken a shot in a few minutes. Got a real nice opportunity to shoot something and when I clicked absolutely nothing happened. No indication in the Rangefinder. I turned the camera off and nothing. Took the bottom off and got a "Bottom Cover Removed" message. Put it back on. Nothing. Took the battery out and put it back in and it began to work. Meantime I missed my shot. Between this and the flashing screen I'm just about thoroughly disgusted that this is a $4800 camera. Patiently awaiting the next firmware rev. Here's a shot I did get today. Great camera when it works. John

RSL Posted April 22, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2007 What did you sharpen that shot with? Good grief!
Guest tummydoc Posted April 23, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 23, 2007 I had to exchange two dead one before getting one that works for more than 2 weeks. I hope this one is the exceptional M8 that will be trouble-free but I'm afraid that's naive since it has recently locked up once briefly. For someone like myself who is more of a collector and only a casual photographer I'm not horribly distressed, but if I were serious about taking pictures or did it for a living I would hesitate to trust in even multiple M8 bodies no matter how spectacular the image quality is "when it's working". jaapv Posted April 23, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 23, 2007 I agree with Russ - it seems rather on the oversharpened side - posterized too. Jpeg and 8 bits I suppose?

I have you beat. I exchanged three and have now had my fourth for a bit over two weeks and it is still working (knocking on wood). I think this one will have to be trouble free for several months before I'll feel comfortable taking it on a paying shoot without having my Canons somewhere close by.
