Calvito Posted August 9, 2014 Share #61 Posted August 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have not seen anyone quote the manual (sorry if I missed it) but on page 200 of my manual it says: Important (legal restrictions on use): In certain countries or regions, the use of GPS and associated technologies may be restricted. Therefore, before travelling in other countries you should consult the relevant country's embassy or your travel agent. The use of GPS inside the People's Republic of China and Cuba and close to their borders (exceptions: Hong Kong and Macao) is prohibited by national laws. Violations will be prosecuted by the authorities. The GPS function is therefore deactivated automatically in these areas. As for my 'Multifunctional Handgrip M', I love the grip (hardly any need now for my thumbs up now), tethered shooting is surely I'll be doing more of in the future (I like the app although I would also like an app for mobile devices) but I've not been able to get the GPS module to work. I am not in China of Cuba but in Amsterdam. I think I'll try to move into an area with less buildings. Maybe that will help.
Advertisement Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Hi Calvito, Take a look here Multifunction Grip - GPS Menu Greyed Out. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted August 9, 2014 Share #62 Posted August 9, 2014 The current problem is that the GPS reception is so weak, with the current five minute position forget window, the MF grip has usually lost the position before it has found a satellite again. Leica have now sort of admitted that they might have got this wrong and the forget time hopefully will be changed to something more sensible at the next FW update to around 2 or 3 hours (we asked for 4 hours). It was one of these things that slipped us beta testers and probably shouldn’t. Wilson
hoppyman Posted August 9, 2014 Share #63 Posted August 9, 2014 Hi Wilson. Well I have never had any battle with Customs authorities here personally but I was without my M (typ 240) for 3 months after I dropped it and it was slow to go through the Australian repair network before then going to Solms and coming back right at the end of year slow down period. ..... Just to follow up, my M (Typ 240) is in Wetzlar and they estimate 8-10 weeks there plus the transit times. That's slow to my mind unfortunately. I'll try hard never to drop my camera again Solved my studio bookings issue with a second hand S2, solved my travel camera issue with a second hand X Vario! tookaphotoof Posted August 10, 2014 Share #64 Posted August 10, 2014 8-10 Weeks doesn't even sound too bad to me. Wait till customs decides to keep your camera for a month or two. I've been there, albeit car parts. Utterly frustrating if you are in need of a crucial part to be able to finish off the job.
Calvito Posted August 11, 2014 Share #65 Posted August 11, 2014 I finally got a GPS signal from my handgrip yesterday. In a park. In Madrid...
Jennifer Posted August 11, 2014 Share #66 Posted August 11, 2014 I too find the whole GPS connectivity with the multifunction hand grip a bit hit and miss. Even at the same location it sometimes works it sometimes doesn't.
