ian moore Posted February 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am based in the UK and am trying to source a desk lamp to place close to my monitor to view my prints and ensure accuracy with my soft proof displayed on my monitor. I know a proper viewing box is the right option but they are expensive. I have an Eizo monitor and I have read recomenndations for solux desk task lamps (4700 K,CRI greater than 90,etc) but they seem impossible to purchase in the UK. I have also read of Ottlite lamps. I have calibrated the monitor of course. All help appreciated. Ian Moore

peterbengtson Posted February 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2014 I have used the Ottlites and they work fine but are somewhat expensive and hard to find. In the US full spectrum lights have become more common in the large office supply stores (Staples, Office Depot etc.) The attached link is to one that I use and seems to be no different that the Ottlites I have. I have also found in the big home supply stores that they are stocking 4 foot 90+ cri fluorescent lamps at about the same price as cool white so you could change the lamps in a standard fixture. Possibly you can find the same things in the UK now. I am somewhat amazed at the availability as even 10 years ago nobody in a consumer level store had heard of full spectrum or high CRI lamps and I had to go to a professional supply house that specialized in lighting products (Barbizon Electric in NY). tobey bilek Posted February 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 23, 2014 I use a brand called Daylight sold in art supply stores. I use them for painting oil or water color, but they are suitable for photography. Set the Eizo to 6500 deg K. Gamma 2.2 daylight™ | USA | Painting I use the professional artists lamp in addition to the flip up. This is nice because it is free standing , but coverage area is smaller. The Artists lamp is a clip on table top, but the bulb is around 18" long. ttp://us.daylightcompany.com/product/twist-portable-lamp-black/ If you print for home display, match the monitor to the bulbs you have in the location the print will be.
