wdayton Posted February 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I take photos using widest angle possible you can see the edge of the lens hood (see attached sample at bottom). I'm surprised because this seems like a pretty basis engineering flaw, and also that nobody else has noted it. If I zoom in the slightest amount it solves the problem, but it's hard to remember sometimes. And clearly I can easily crop the photos myself. But unless someone has a better idea I'm about to grind a bit off the lens hood. Wes Welcome, dear visitor! I think you are either not fixing the hood correctly or maybe your hood is somehow 'wrong' ? It seems strange that it dips in the middle too, the hood is a petal shape so if it were intruding on the image it would more likely appear centrally only and top and bottom..... The hood is symmetric, isn't it? There is definitely something wrong with how the hood is attached. Check whether the hood is skewed when mounted. But wouldn't it then show on the sides rather than on top and/or bottom? Just checked, and my Panasonic FZ200 (equivalent to V-Lux 4) does not have this problem. mrware Posted February 5, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 5, 2014 Now that my own V-Lux 4 arrived, I can tell from your photo, you do not have the hood on correctly. The main clue is we see two petals at the bottom of your frame. When installed correctly there will be a single petal on each of the four "sides" of the lens. Top, bottom, left and right all have the tip of a petal centered on them. The two shorter pedals are at the sides of the frame. Hope that helps you. I will say it's a tight fit. wdayton Posted March 19, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted March 19, 2014 Many thanks for all your ideas, most of which focused on (sorry for pun) incorrectly attaching hood. Feeling quite sure I had it on correctly, I finally took it to the shop where I bought it. They noted that changing the aspect ratio to, say, 16:9 made the shadow disappear, but admitted it should work with any ratio. So off to Leica repairer for several weeks but now I have it back and - no shadow. The repairman said they needed to "adjust the focus and collimate the lens assembly".
