ade909 Posted August 1, 2006 Share #43  Posted August 1, 2006 James, Ron, William and Dave,  It was great to meet you, yesterday: good company, good food, and interesting conversation. I trust everyone managed to get home safe and sound. Dave, have you tried out your new purchase, yet?  James, thanks for posting the photos! William and Ron, you've got me hunting for a 0.58!  Another informal London meeting soon, perhaps?  best  Adrian
dhsimmonds Posted August 2, 2006 Share #44 Â Posted August 2, 2006 It was really great meeting William ,Ron, Andy and James at the Grenadier on Monday evening.............great conversation, wonderful company, good beer(cider in my case), nice food and a terrific venue, what more do you need..........yeh, well some girls would have been nice but then we would never have talked Leica!! Â I managed to get back to Waterloo without getting mugged for my "loot", and so far my wife hasn't left me! Thank you William for organising this dinner, thanks to Ron for looking after William during your period in the UK and also James for posting the photo's and Andy for taking the one of James and myself! Â Cheers, Dave
lambroving Posted August 2, 2006 Share #45 Â Posted August 2, 2006 Hmmm... Reading this makes me glad I can't take a computer on holiday... Â For those of you who were able to attend, it was great to meet you all and to have your company. I'm also pleased you liked the well-hidden country pub in Central London, the ales, (cider in one case! :-), and the food. I make a habit of going there on my last night in the U.K. and am always sorry to have to leave..., even if I AM out of $$$ by that time. Having your company made the departure less painful. Â And for the rest of you above, during this week I was the chauffer and tour guide while Ron did most of the shooting and some navigating in Leicestershire. Shot only five rolls myself while Ron brought enough film to sink a battleship. Now you will only need to coerce him to post it! I will say that, due to my friends and MSCC contacts, Ron never had a bad meal or a bad pint! Never once did he ask for a lager. I believe he enjoys rural England as much as I. Â As for my hired 4/4, it was bought specifically to hire to a friend of mine for the Le Mans Classic and was the same year as my Plus 8 and almost the same color scheme. I was glad to have a car with a hood I understand (even though we never needed it) and with no ECU glitches which manifest themselves occasionally in the later 1.8's. I believe Ron really enjoyed the experience, and after a ride one evening in a friend's Plus 8, was asking about the used market! Â Never able to sleep on planes, so still badly jet-lagged, but hope to recover within a week or three.
dhsimmonds Posted August 3, 2006 Share #46  Posted August 3, 2006 James, Ron, William and Dave, Dave, have you tried out your new purchase, yet?  Adrian  Didn't manage to even look at it on Tuesday, but was able to put it altogether yesterday including fitting the new screen. The 28-70 is on the front, a card in the slot and I am checking menus etc...........all seems well thank you. It's a bit of a lump after the LC1 but a very well balanced lump.  The screen is split image and because of the 1.37 crop there is a nice frame a la rangefinder with space around, so I can see what is coming into the frame........neat. Will post some results when I have something worth posting! Now I just have to wait for my £700 back from Leica!  Cheers, Dave

dhsimmonds Posted August 4, 2006 Share #49  Posted August 4, 2006 Sorry, I must have missed the conversation on Monday - Dave, what did you buy??? not a DMR?? James & Mark, yep, I finally did it after sitting on the fence for far too long! That was what was in the large plain white carrier bag that you looked after for me James.........it wasn't really a hat for my wife! That cash rebate was just the incentive I needed.  Funny little story about that as yesterday I received a letter back from Leica UK enclosing my passport for the R9.....all in a jiffy bag with a roll of Reala film that I had left in the Fujica SLR that I handed in for my £700 rebate!  I haven't used that camera for at least 5 years, so I haven't a clue whats on the film, if anything! Anyway R9/DMR is great, I just need to get out and use it, and get some more lenses to keep the 28-70 company! Cheers, Dave
