I was surprised by this current E**y sale Leica M9 Digital Camera - Black (Body Only) 4022243107045 | eBay

 

The seller failed to notice this omission until after posting the sale. But it could be quite a rare copy.

 

If you look at Brian Bower's book 'Leica M Digital Photography', many of the illustrations provided by Leica show just such a camera, albeit an M8. Was this an early M9 prototype?

I think the lever has simply fallen off. In one of the photos I can see a circular 'mount' where the lever should be! I wouldn't pay extra for it :)

I guess you are right James. I also think the seller must be a dealer not to have been aware of the missing part which the actual owner would have known.

On 16-Jan-14 at 11:15:21 GMT, seller added the following information:UPDATE: I have just noticed that the selector lever that shows different frame views is missing. This is the lever to the left of the lens is missing. You can see this oin photo 3. Many apologies - I have literally just noticed this.

look closer and you can see the lever.

Well, the missing lever made this the bargain of the month; GBP 1950,-- Leica will most probably replace the lever for free. Just get a charger (available third party) and a battery and it is ready to go…
