philipus Posted January 21, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted January 21, 2014 Well I don't sadly but I was more wondering about how rare this lens really is. Is the starting price motivated?
madNbad Posted January 22, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2014 If anyone is well versed about manufacturing in Midland it would be intresting to hear from them. The period when the lens was produced was a pivotal time for rangefinder cameras which were being rapidly outpaced by cheaper and more advanced desiged SLRs' from Japan. The decisions about what would be manufactured in Canada were most likely contentious and this Summilux may have been a toe in the water with very few produced. Like any collectable, desireability, scarcity and condition set the price. In the world of Leica with so many short runs of a certain design or color combinations, I for one would not be surprised to see it sell at that price. luigi bertolotti Posted January 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2014 Those Summilux with chrome ring have became ,in last years, items with abnormally high quotations : Leica Summilux 1,4/35mm black - Summilux 1,4/35mm (M2) - Leica M Objektive - LEICA It's totally unclear to me how this sort of frenzy has happened ... ... after all, is a rather common lens with a small (rare, I admit) finishing variant : why they are valued much more than, say, a Hologon (> 3x) or even a Tele Elmarit 180 for Visoflex (> 15x) is a mistery to me... Guest Mr. B Posted January 25, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2014 Just think about the possibilities acquiring new modern Leica digital cameras and lenses if you had $45,000 to spend. Mr. B
farnz Posted January 25, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 25, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) It didn't look that rare to me either. And it isn't even being offered with a rare OLLUX hood. Pete.

wizard Posted January 31, 2014 Share #9 Posted January 31, 2014 Well, in the end it seems nobody was prepared to spend that kind of money on this lens, as there were no bids at all.

With that finishing yes, they are few... but the Canada factory made thousands of Summiluxes 35.
