Ted Lemon Posted January 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2014 Client Care … see paragraph 6 Leica Mayfair to commence offering limited on site diagnostics and adjustments and light repairs in addition to existing 'M' sensor cleaning service. dunk Thanks for pointing in this out - I just had an email exchange with Solms CS on doing lens adjustments in Mayfair and they said they would only be doing sensor cleaning. Would be great if they could do the lens adjustment as well.
dkCambridgeshire Posted January 21, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks for pointing in this out - I just had an email exchange with Solms CS on doing lens adjustments in Mayfair and they said they would only be doing sensor cleaning. Would be great if they could do the lens adjustment as well. I guess it would depend on the diagnostic equipment installed in the new Leica Mayfair lab. as to whether lens adjustments could be offered … and I would not be surprised if there is a 'relocation' of some of Solms' diagnostic equipment to other client care / service centres when the new Wetzlar factory is operational. dunk

I also hope the new factory gets production sorted and can make my APO 50 on order with Red Dot before I formally retire in a year or so!

dkCambridgeshire Posted January 21, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted January 21, 2014 An interesting and long-overdue development. I imagine that 'later in the year' when the new diagnostic/minor repair facility is available, Mayfair could be very busy. dunk
Jeff S Posted January 22, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) With Leica's notoriously deficient new product availability (and early release glitches), it makes sense that the Leica stores begin to offer service in lieu of sales. dkCambridgeshire Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted January 23, 2014 Free ? Yes … a complimentary sensor clean on M series cameras only . Apologies for not seeing the 2011 date on the Leica Mayfair link. TTBOMK the free sensor cleans were only offered from mid-last year and I assumed the 'light repairs' were a follow-on from that. dunk
sc_rufctr Posted January 24, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 24, 2014 Hellooooo, Leica? Hi, I live in Australia... *waves* There is a Leica centre planned for Australia. I've "heard" it may open by mid this year. No idea on location but I would guess Sydney. They'll be able to do minor repairs and adjustments.
marknorton Posted January 28, 2014 Share #13 Posted January 28, 2014 I think the concept of Leica Mayfair doing "light repairs" is similar to them offering "light refreshments". Sounds useful in principle but leaves you ultimately dissatisfied. As others have pointed out, this is nearly 3 years old which is but a blink of an eye in the development of a new service from Leica Mayfair. However, I will continue to send my equipment needing service directly to Solms which neatly side-steps the sullen grumpiness, sighs and general resentment I am spoiling their day - and they mine. Have to say my experiences with Leica Mayfair staff have been very cheerful and happy, and I was impressed by their helpfulness and professionalism ... and not just at visits to their Mayfair premises but also at several visits to Birdfairs. In fact they could not have been more helpful. Furthermore, Leica Society and Leica Forum colleagues accompanying me on these occasions were similarly impressed. I find if you greet people with a courteous and attitude then they reciprocate dunk
jcraf Posted January 28, 2014 Share #15 Posted January 28, 2014 I've only been twice. Once to have my M and MM sensors cleaned (for free) and once to attend the 3 hour MM course. On both occasions I found the staff friendly and helpful, and willing to dispense advice and coffee. Although I thought that I knew a bit about the MM, the course instructor was excellent and informative, and I thoroughly enjoyed the course along with 2 other MM owners, like me both Leica users for years. In passing, I mentioned that I had lost the rubber foot cover from my M240's EVF2, and wanted to order a replacement if possible. I was given a new one foc by the instructor. Probably saved 30 quid there, knowing the cost of these small replacement parts! As for the sensor cleaning, again done effectively having left the cameras with them for a morning. So, in an admittedly limited series of only 2 visits I've only had positive things to report. But of course I recognise others may have different views and experiences. Chuck Albertson Posted February 4, 2014 Share #16 Posted February 4, 2014 Somewhat related - has the pop-up in the Burlington Arcade re-opened? When I stopped by a few weeks ago, they said the shop would close for two weeks and then re-open with the full product line (over Christmas, they just carried compacts and binos, but said they had a lot of requests for M products).
