Viewing the Bruce Davidson interview, text and Google Images work has prompted me to got out today and shoot street today as it's New Year's Day here in Mongolia and the streets are quiet.

Can't get on with a 28mm though. 35 f2 usually but today, it's the 50mm f1.4.

That's so cool. And you're right, in a way those videos are Google videos, because Google owns YouTube.

Would love to see the photos that you made during Mongolian New Year.

Hey, guys, lighten up. Can always count on those to take the thread away from the OP. It is a loser post and a dopey post. How's that. I have no idea who he is, so my comment is directed at his actions and not the man in the OP video... and it is loser video. Sorry. (Are we all watching the same video? The one he mixes up glue and puts in on a popsicle stick?)

I did go back and watch one of his videos. It was the one where he was given money (like $10K) to make a video. So, he travelled around the world for 11 days and spent the entire budget on himself and taking pictures of himself and I think trying to say carpe diem. It was ok. Nice job, I wish someone would pay me to take my S90s around the world and take this sort of video style of myself. Anyone listening? I would do it for $5K.

So you just watched the typhoon relief video and are saying that Mr. Neistat had $10K to spend, and spent it all promoting himself.

Meanwhile, a seven year old watching that video would know that Twentieth Century Fox gave him $25K to do a promotional video for a major film, and that he asked for, and got, permission to spend the entire budget on typhoon relief.

I don't know how much of the $25K went to relief rather than expenses (quite possibly, perhaps even likely, all of it), but I do know that your attack on him, starting with your decision to misrepresent a plain fact, is really wrong (and that's putting it charitably).

And you raised how much for typhoon relief?

P.S. Where do you get off calling people "losers" and "dopes"? I ask, in part, because this post, which mirrors an earlier one (where you used the same barely literate words), suggests that you are now using these words to characterize me as well as Mr. Neistat.

Accidentally hitting the video button?

Want to remove the Leica name or red dot?

Worried about losing your camera?

Casey Neistat uploaded a video this morning to demonstrate how he solved these kinds of problems with his Canon. Different camera, but his ideas should work :)

Hmmmm. Scratch the finish of my M(240) and epoxy a Popsicle stick to it then paint the shutter release with white fingernail polish?

I don't think so!

I think that I finally get it.

There are participants on the forum who think that Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin were making documentaries.

No, I watched a video where he spent 10 days traveling around the world for Nike spending their budget taking videos of himself! What is so special and great about that? What are you talking about? This is not how I live my life and I can not relate to it at all. I know that the amount of money$$$ he is paid is important to you as is the number of "hits" on YouTube is a measure of what a big deal he is. I understand you resonate with sort of thing. I do not. My life is spent in service to others, sorry.

It seems to me that his cameras break because he does a heck of a lot of work with them.

Z - I have the same camera and it has lasted for many years. I work a heck of a lot with my N90s and it still works because I never fu#ked it up like he shows in the video. It has been to Mexico, Kona, and to the the Caribbean (under water) and all over and I just take care of it... that includes spending time diving with it. Hey, give me a bunch of money and I'll take it to 3rd world countries and I guarantee it will go to better use. No cameras or self promotion. Just service to others.

So what, exactly, is your problem with the fact that he went to the Philippines and spent US$25,000 on typhoon relief?

No, he spent $25,000 promoting himself on YouTube... which he wants you to believe he spent on the volume of food that fits in a bus.

Do the math. $25,000/20cents/lb= 125,000lbs of Rice. 62 tons of rice! That wouldn't fit into a bus. So, let's keep it real. Where did the rest of the money go?

  • 1 year later...

All of which proves just one thing.

People can find anything to argue about and find fault with anything...especially on internet forums.

I guess the days of "lighten up" are long gone; everyone is offended, everyone is hyper-critical, everyone can do it better.

Also, people tend to reply to discussions in the internet which have been dormant for a long time.

:-

I knew how long it was dormant when I commented, I didn't see that it was a problem. I assumed it might spark further discussion and it did. :)

in situations like this basic food is usually available in the region, the bottlenecks being transport and affordability. I would be surprised if it were rice that had been brought in from far away.

Hey Rip Van Winkle :D , I still say, give me $25,000 and I bet I could deliver more than a bus load of food.  Of course, you dug that thread up from a year and a half ago so, we would have to take inflation into account.
