Bishnoi Cooking

Another of the cultures we were fortunate enough to visit not far from Jodhpur was a group called “Bishnoi”, which translates from Hindi as “21” and represents the 21 tenets of conservation laid down by a15th century guru. These tenets were independently discovered hundreds of years later by 20th century scientists. The Bishnoi live a simple life in harmony with nature, and are rather wealthy from employing their “21” tenets in raising cash crops. I’ll probably post some more Bishnoi shots later un the week, but here we see two examples of their cooking.

BTW: A few days later at an airport I noticed that a security guard’s nametag said, “Bishnoi”. In surprise I loudly said his name, and then explained our visit to one of the villages. He was pleased and proud. Unfortunately, the crowds behind us prevented us from conversing any longer, so I never got his story. There are more Bishnoi photos on the 3rd page of India photos on our site.

Two fine pics, Stuart.

Hindi people are so photogenic and indulgent with us, as photographers :-)

The last picture I did there, in 1992, was of two sikhs policeman on their motorcycle, near the India's Door.

I was preparing the capture, and they stopped on purpose, adopting a serious and fierce pose the both, and waiting patiently meanwhile I did the catch :-)

Thanks for sharing, and best regards.

Stuart,

fine shots both.

The colours and motion in the first, the expression in the second, and the well judged inclusion of surroundings for context in both, are particularly good.

These are both good shots Stuart. Beautiful color scheme on the first one. You obviously have a skill in making people feel at ease while being photographed. You've said in the past that Indian people are willing subjects, but you've avoided the typical shots of a person standing stiffly at attention in front of the camera, and given us nice little slices of daily life.
