parigby Posted January 18, 2014 Share #21 Posted January 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Me, l went Chrome because it looks great with Chrome lenses and great with Black lenses. To my eye, the Black looks great with Black lenses, but a bit odd with Chrome. I therefore get the best of both worlds.

thighslapper Posted January 18, 2014 Share #22 Posted January 18, 2014 after a brief black outing I have stuck with chrome ...... .... looks appropriately retro and always mistaken or a cheap Zenith or similar ...... which suits me fine when you have such a large amount of money dangling from your neck .... 01af Posted January 18, 2014 Share #24 Posted January 18, 2014 Don't accept the camera body's colour you don't really want just to avoid a week or two of waiting. But then—don't insist in a black body just because your lenses are black. Black lenses will look equally well on a chrome body. On the other hand—I originally wanted a chrome Leica M when a black one came along, so I took it ... and today, eight months later, I'm glad I did. But I guess I'd be equally happy with a chrome body. Today, the average waiting time is much shorter than it used to be eight months ago. If you are absolutely clear about your preference then don't settle for anything else. If you're not clear then grab what you can get, go with it, and don't look back. Agree on all points, including that in the end once you have it in any colour you will probably be happy with it. Personally, I wanted silver and waited for it - took another two months. My M9 and Monochrom are black. And yes, black lenses look just fine on silver finish cameras. After all the camera is clad in black. My previous camera system was built around a champagne titanium F3/T with black lenses and it never occurred to me that they were incompatible finishes. fchan1211 Posted January 19, 2014 Share #28 Posted January 19, 2014 Strange. Unless it is an error on Vistek web page. I just checked and they still marked as In Stock with their Toronto store and will be shipped in 1 - 2 business day.
intermediatic Posted January 19, 2014 Share #29 Posted January 19, 2014 Both black and chrome lenses look better on the Chrome cameras. I've actually owned both, not just reflected on this in abstraction. It's clear my father was right and Leicas should be chrome, just like his Leica 3. After 6 months of owning a black M9, it was scuffed badly. After 6 months of owning a chrome M 240 and taking as many photos, it's not scuffed at all. If you want it to look good after ten years, get the M 240, unless you like the "brassing" but believe me, nobody on eBay is going to give a hoot about that if you go that route. Outside this forum, Chrome does way better on resale. I think a lot of people buy black for the same reason I did the first time, it's what Leica sends to the stores, probably because it's less expensive to produce. The fact that there's never a Chrome glut and that Chrome commands higher premiums on eBay should tell you something too. You won't be sorry with Chrome. Black, well that's another story. I was sorry fast.

Rva Posted January 20, 2014 Author Share #31 Posted January 20, 2014 After reading your comments and suggestions, thanks a lot, seeing Leica videos on youtube, I have bought a silver body. My impression is that the black lens attached to the silver body looks really great. Another reason to buy the silver body was to have better chance of getting additional lenses regardless of color. It is irritating that I have to wait two hours to charge a battery …….. before taking first picture
