Video on the M

I was just thinking about it. I have had my M for several months now. I have yet to hit the movie button and record a video.

How many of you use the video function on a regular basis?

I've used it for paid work (talking head interviews as an addition to a photo-documentary assignment) and it was just what was needed. External tie-clip mike and a Gitzo Traveller tripod, and it worked fine. I used a mix of 50 lux asph or 35 cron asph and the results in a range of lighting were excellent. Great as it saved me having to carry around a DSLR.

I guess I need to play with it to figure it out. Most videos I take are during my GF's Tango lessons, and I use an actual video camera for that as I can zoom in and out.

I'd guess with a camera one has to zoom in and out with their feet. Not to mention losing focus as people move towards or away from you.

I agree that with talking heads and stationary objects it would probably work like any camera based video camera (once one has focused).

For some discussion about video software and hardware, maybe see this contemporaneous thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/317065-how-view-m-240-video-windows.html

I think that eventually there will be a sub-forum for M 240 video, but apparently the owner of this site has no appetite for it yet. If it doesn't happen here, it will happen on another site.

It's quite weird that some people apparently don't like the fact that an M 240 can take 24 photos per second. But bracketing, and continuous mode, are not only desirable, but essential features. Right.

The video feature was one thing I never thought I'd use. But, as I heard my grandson play the mandolin, I asked his brother to back him up on the guitar. I did a video that surprised me with the quality. It is a handy feature, and I'm glad to have it.
