Help with E49 adapter for M Universal polarizing filter please.

I am trying to determine which E49 adapter to buy so that I can use my universal polarizing filter ( the Leica flip up one) with my Apo- Telyt 1:3.4/ 135 lens.

The Leica website under accessories states that the "regular" E49 adapter is not suitable with this lens and that the model no. 14418 adapter must be used instead with this lens .

The instruction manual that came with the filter says something completely different- adapter 14213 must be used with the "4/135 " lens. The website doesn't even list this adapter or it's model number. I don't have the 4/135 anyway clearly.

The " regular" adapter for all other lens with 49mm thread ( by default) is listed as 14211 on both the web and the manual that came with the polarizer

I will also note that I currently have a 49 mm UV filter mounted on this lens. It is just a regular UV filter. Works fine with no problems. So why won't the "regular" 49mm adapter work with this lens? They all screw in the same.

And if I do need the "special" adapter who do I believe? The printed manual ( which states special adapter is only for 4/135 lens - ergo the normal one will work as my lens is 3.4/135) or the current website which insists that 3.4 135 lens - the lens I have - must use the special adapter only shown on the website and not referenced in the products manual.

Confused? I sure am.

Can anybody help before I waste $ ordering something from B+H which may or may not work, or worse damage a 4k lens?

Thank you in advance

I wondered about this when briefly considering the75 Summicron and thinking that I would need to buy this adapter too. All I can think is that the existing 49mm adapter somehow fouls or might get stock on the 134/3.4 apo and 75/2 due to their hood diameter and its snugness when retracted. I'd suggest querying Leica direct via their website, except that I can't see them offering the adapter if there wasn't some reason for needing too - and it has to be physical. I have what I assume to be the ordinary E49 adapter (it was included with the pola filter which I bought secondhand) and its overall diameter is 56mm. My guess is that this is too small relative to the hood diameter of the 75 &135 apo (easy enough to measure) and that the ring for these is 'stepped' - which logically would be ok for longer focal length but might risk vignetting on shorter focal length lenses. I'd also guess that the large filter diameter adapters are also 'stepped' - perhaps someone will confirm as I don't have any.

According to the wiki these are 58mm and 58.5mm diameter so my comments above do make sense.

And the TE 4.0 135 (except the last version which is the same as the Apo-Telyt) needs the basic 39 mm adapter that comes with the filter.

Which appears to be 14207 from the latest price list (replacement). All good, confusing stuff ensuring that future Leica collectors will have their work cut out;).

Actually B&H show photos of both 14418 & 14211 on their website and whilst the 14418 does looks deeper, it isn't easy to tell exactly what the difference really is!

It must add needed space between the back of the polarizer and the front of the lens. Looking at the photo on the B&H site for the 14418 for comparison to the ones in the polarizer kit, it looks thicker.
