One positive (?) benefit of that observation is that I started to really learn RAW processing and the RAW developed images are very good. I have to contradict myself. with 2 small adjustments (setting the color mode to 'vivid' and only shooting ISO 80 aperture preferred shooting wide open ) makes the OTC jpg's keepers. I am also shooting RAW -but as viewed on my iPad Air the jpg's are very very good. To modify the exposure I have been using the over/under exposure setting which mostly I have been underexposing a ⅓ to ⅔ a stop depending on the histogram. I will post some images when I can get a moment or

I will post some images when I can get a moment or 3 What are the high ISO JPEG’s like? I am looking at this camera for my wife, as a replacement for her elderly V-Lux 20. Never in a million years will my wife start using DNG/RAW, so it has to take good JPEG’s. The higher ISO JPEG’s are a bit of a weak point on the V-Lux, I assume due to its tiny and crowded sensor. She is going off on a cycling trip round Nepal (booking includes a free insanity certificate) in October. Since this is a unique photo-opportunity and I will not be along to provide photo back up, as I am going to Taiwan instead. I don’t want to risk the old V-Lux breaking down. I have already had to sort out sticky lens extension on the V-Lux, which always seems a weak point on these Pana-Leicas and has been the cause of her two previous C-Luxes failing. The alternative is the Sony RX100M2. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted May 17, 2014 Share #24 Posted May 17, 2014 As someone who never shot film greater than ASA (now ISO) 400 I never go further than ISO 400- and the images are ‘ok' I have a roll of T-Max 3200 in my M4 at the moment. Together with the 0.95 Nocti, you can take some very interesting shots with this. Looking at the shots my wife has taken on her previous exotic cycling trips (Rajasthan, Vietnam/Cambodia and Jordan), quite a few of the shots are evening and early morning. The tiny flashes on these small cameras are pretty useless other than close up, so the high ISO performance is important. The C-Luxes were totally hopeless with pictures with horrible chroma noise, that looked like pointilliste paintings. The V-Lux 20 is better but in reality its limit is 800 ISO. When I see what I can do with the M240 up to 3200 and my Olympus EP-5, where ISO 6400 is acceptable, it gives a lot of flexibility on lighting. Mixalis Posted May 29, 2014 Author Share #25 Posted May 29, 2014 Thank you to everyone for your useful comments on the Leica C. At long last, after being sidetracked on many occasion by new cameras, lenses and other similar lusts, I have published the report on the Leica C. I just came back from vacation taking only my x1 and the c and I ended up taking more images with the c than the x1. I will post some this weekend- your images are very good

isaac Posted June 5, 2014 Share #30 Posted June 5, 2014 Hello Mike! Thank you to everyone for your useful comments on the Leica C. At long last, after being sidetracked on many occasion by new cameras, lenses and other similar lusts, I have published the report on the Leica C. Please tell me if there are any glaring errors or misapprehensions on my part. Thank you for your report on the Leica C to which I can only fully agree!!! I want also emphasise one topic again, the stepped zoom. It is more than a pleasure to have it in work and it gives me a real "M-fealing" using this camera. I use this little gem since end of last year and to be honest, I did more photographs since that time as with all my other cameras. The image quality is outstanding, which is mainly the result of the lens. I do not own any D-Lux, so I can not quite understand the differences shown in the cited test comparison (CameraLabs). Maybe the Leica C has a better "selected" lens than the LF1 (I doubt) or the LF1 used was a kind of outlier in the series. But I think, it is also worth to mention, that the fact of removing the distortion in software will reduce the overall resolution in the wide-angle and tele range obviously. I am convinced, because I could watch the same effect with my Panasonic L10 together with the Vario-Elmar D 28-150 which is typically not distortion corrected in software. I have tried this (with homemade profile) but I did not use this correction any longer because of lost of resolution. Overall, at least at ISO 80, the Leica C produces images from the same quality like the L10 together with the Vario-Elmar! In comparison to my M8 and M9 it performs of course less, but it is much more comfortable, to have the Leica C with me, than any M (not to speak about the DSLR L10). Last verdict: the EVF is better than one would assume, mainly in case of bright sunshine.
wlaidlaw Posted June 5, 2014 Share #31 Posted June 5, 2014 I have bitten the bullet and bought an ex-demo/display C for my wife from the USA. I will get it sent to my French house as French customs still sometimes miss customs duties, whereas the UK rarely does now. Her V-Lux 20 started to misbehave again at my son’s wedding last Saturday, with the lens sticking on extension, so time it was replaced. I am sure it is every time after she has been carrying it around not in its case but in her handbag. I think dust/grit gets in the telescopic lens mechanism. wlaidlaw Posted June 12, 2014 Share #32 Posted June 12, 2014 The C has arrived and seems a very nice little camera. Somehow I expected it to be a bit bigger than the V-Lux 20 but I don’t think it is noticeably. I love the step zoom on the ring, with the numbers appearing in the LCD/VF. The EVF is nothing to write home about but useful in bright sunlight. The weird thing that I do notice is that the SD card goes in “the wrong way round”. Every Leica digital I have had that takes an SD card, since the Digilux 1 (the earlier ones took Smart Media cards), have had the card inserted with the label facing you. The C is the other way round. I think this comes under the heading “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Wilson

I've been tempted by other offerings, including the new Sony RX100 MkIII but when I work out all the pros and cons I come back to this little camera with its (modest) viewfinder. I don't have great expectations and it certainly isn't my only camera, so it does what I expect and it is very convenient.

I am certainly not going to trust it to French post. I bought a new Gen 7 iPod classic for use in my car, since the one in there is an 8 year old Gen 5 one and is working long after one might expect that it would have gone to the great Apple Orchard in the sky. I understand the iPod classic is going out of production, so it is nice to have a spare tucked away. The classic is the only one that works well with the Denison ICE 500 optical audio gateway in my car. Anyway the new one I bought from a UK eBay seller I have dealt with before, sat at Roissy Airport in Paris for over two weeks on the way to me. We had actually assumed it was stolen and the seller had started an insurance claim when it turned up. Wilson
