Quakes, floods, droughts, gales, we've got 'em… but no snakes, crocs, poisonous spiders (well, only one native species). Yep, we also have politicians. A different landscape every hour of driving: ocean beaches, plains, mountains, forests, glaciers, coast to coast in a day. At least you can be sure about the hours of daylight.

Christchurch is still a mess. I'd be keen to see Melbourne again, haven't been there for ages. Said to be a very "livable" city, as is Adelaide. My trip coming up to Germany at the end of this week; will be planning another midwinter getaway when I get back.

NZ is dear to me too. Captain Broughton <http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/broughton-edward-renata-muhunga-9595> helped my father a Dunera Boy settle into Australia (after the horrors of concentration camp and Nazi Germany. When I was a teenager my father toured there in the late 60's in Fiddler on the Roof and we got to travel the two islands.

It was a bit disconcerting for me with long hair as it was not the fashion then.

and I have an old greenstone around my neck

Looks like we're going to have lots to talk about!

How does this challenge business actually work?

Accordingly, what time should I set for the meet-up?

Once confirmed I'll start another thread with the details in the heading.

Cheers

Michael

Michael, there is a good proforma for a 'Challenge' set of rules or whatever which can be found under 'The One Challenge' somewhere on the forum.

I have just had a harrowing day in court and can't think at all clearly, so I will dig up what I know tomorrow and post it. Meanwhile the reference I gave can get you there immediately if you know what you are looking for. Maybe I am not making much sense. Wait till tomorrow.

Thanks Lars. You saved me a bit of digging. Those maps take me back to palermo. Must revisit my pics from there.

Michael, the formal info that Lars so kindly found for us may seem a bit intimidating to the uninitiated. In practice it is not at all difficult, in fact totally enjoyable. There is nothing that says we must even follow that procedure. It is a good starting point from which to tailor make our own fun.

Thanks for finding this - good get! I hope to be there. I have 3 quite young kids and so have some negotiation to do with the other half to make sure I'll still be in a relationship when I get back! I'll do my best. In the meantime I like the look of the one challenge so if there are no objections over the next 24 hours I'll lock in May 3, 2.00pm at Y&J. I'll also start a new thread with that info in the subject line.

Hope to be there on Saturday, and to meet some of you then!

Great to meet a few of you at Thorsten's coffee meet up this morning. Also great to be in a room with so many Leicas! Refreshing to be able to talk about the gear and photography in general with the like minded.

And now a mea culpa - I trotted off after an hour and realised some time later that I had completely overlooked the fact that I had a coffee and had not paid for it. Which means I owe somebody some money. Never done that before, but will make amends at the Melbourne meet-up and One Challenge. <<Embarrassed>>

Thanks to all those who came by, I think about 20 or so. Which I think was a surprise to many, that there was so many like-minded in Melbourne.

Mark Strachan took care of more coffee and food than he was supposed to, as a curtesy, so you can invite him for a coffee next time you see him, Baci :-)

I have a list of those who was there and will be sending a mail to everyone with everyones address. So if you didn't make it but would like to hook up with the Melbourne freaks, send me an e-mail on thorsten@overgaard.dk and I will include you in the list.
