Bottum plate from Luigi

Recommended Posts

There are many threads in this forum that you might find useful. :)

The one you are after is this I believe?: M-mate + Special Case with the cut-out for the battery door at the bottom.

I have the Luigi case without the cut-out at the bottom. But, I like it that way.

For what it's worth, this was my order. I am sure others with the model you are after will chime in. :)

Well made and works really well without even removing the case.

He has one for the M. It is called the M-Mate-M.

It works very well and comes in black or silver.

I love it.

I was going to ask Luigi this, but since you have one, do you think it is equivalent to the Leica baseplate in terms of weather proofing/resistance?

Not quite.

The one thing missing is the plastic insert with the rubber gasket for the memory card. I notice there is no gasket on the original plate for the battery. Only the card.

On a positive note the quality is extremely nice and the fit is tight with the door having a little lip and positive latch. I would call it splash proof but not water tight. But neither is the rest of the body.

Well, it does lack the gasket and that door does not look exactly watertight…

My impression as well. I did find it a pain with my M8 getting the camera out of it's tight fitting case to charge the battery, and the utility of the base plate door would be welcome.

A USB charging and data transfer socket would be an even more welcome addition to the camera, and more easily splash proofed than a constantly opening and closing flap, or constantly removed baseplate. Of all of the issues of film, having to take the camera apart to "load" and "unload" it, is one that could be done away with without regret.

There is of course also the issue of warranty with an after market item. I will see what Luigi (or his daughter) has to say about it all.

BTW, I hope he never submits to the pressure to make his website more "rational." It is crazy, wonderful, and very, very Italian. :D
