Marct40 Posted December 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had my M240 for a few weeks now, all is good except on occasion the centre rectangle focusing point doesn't have the split screen after turning on and off the camera( I can't focus it). It does always happen and is cured by taking the battery out and plugging it in again. Lens is a new summicron 50 I am not sure what it could be anyone else have this problem? Pic taken with it when focusing is possible Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

pop Posted December 29, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2013 Make sure the small window in front of the camera (just below the shutter speed dial) is not obscured. Fingers and camera straps have the nasty habit of resting in front of that window.
250swb Posted December 30, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2013 I suspect that taking the battery out changes the subsequent position of your fingers gripping the camera. Ultimately it is 'finger trouble' and can even happen to experienced Leica users if they have gloves on and accidentally cover the window, although with experience you know what you've done. Try it yourself and you'll see what happens, look through the viewfinder and put a finger over the little window on the front and the focus patch will disappear Steve
farnz Posted December 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2013 Further to the excellent advice on the cause written above, the battery plays no part in the presence of the rangefinder patch, which is a mechanical-optical device and not electronic at all. Here is a picture of how it works. (Look below "Where is my mirror?"). Your finger is inadvertently blocking window B. Pete.
