algrove Posted December 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to get one of these, but wanted to make sure if all came with goggles. If not, any help on the lenses which did not come with goggles, but still give that old Summaron look to images. Or can one remove the goggles for use with say the M240. Then again it looks like the M mount versus screw mount lenses came without goggles. Can someone confirm please and suggest the lens part number for precise reference. Thanks. Advertisement Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Hi algrove, Take a look here Did all 35 Summaron f3.5 come with goggles?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jc_braconi Posted December 27, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 27, 2013 Yes there are : Objectif LEICA Summaron 35 mm f/3,5 (1954-1960)
algrove Posted December 27, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted December 27, 2013 From this I should be looking for a SOONC-M without goggles made from 1954-1960. Thanks so much.
earleygallery Posted December 27, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 27, 2013 You can't use a goggled lens without the goggles i.e. Don't remove them. The goggles will work with any M body.

Yes... but keep in mind that most of the ungoggled Summaron 35 3,5 BM will activate the 50mm frame, not the 35... (they were made for usage with external VF like SBLOO). They can be rather easily modified to activate the correct framelines, anyway : the items which activate "natively" the 35mm frame are rather uncommon (and slightly different in finishing / details) Or you can find the E39 SM version (price similar, in the mean) and use a BM adapter for 35 mm lenses, thus solving the frame issue. The goggled version can indeed be mounted on any M model, and the FOV is correct (50mm frame "enlarged" to 35) ... but of course, though nice as an item, is less easy to be managed / carried etc.... : optical performance is identical. luigi bertolotti Posted December 27, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) * other s/n 1600000 to be sure (try to find one... ... I missed one on ebay 2 months ago... first one I saw in more than 1 year... not with massive continuous chasing, I admit...) ** depends of camera body used (why ? ... I think that a 3rd party SM adapter for 35, coded properly, will activate 35 frame on any digital body... or am I wrong ?) Happy new year, JC !! jc_braconi Posted December 29, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 29, 2013 Luigi you have my best wishes for the New Year. About the SM adapter I experienced that on the M6 for the first time, you need to use the 135 one to get the 35 frame. I do not try on the M7 after that, will do when I will get time.
