Herr Barnack Posted December 9, 2013 Share #21 Posted December 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pleased to say the ever helpful Andrea Frankl has tracked down my lens and it's on its way back to me. Fortunately, it had not been sent out. What a real asset to Leica she is. Glad to hear it was resolved to your satisfaction. For what it's worth, such a gaffe is simply inexcusable. Each lens is clearly identified with a serial number clearly engraved on it. Of course, that is of no consequence when the shipping department doesn't bother to actually read the S/N on the lens and compare it to the accompanying paperwork. Then we have the real issue at the heart of the matter: You sent in a new APO 50 Summicron ASPH and were sent back a battered 50mm Summilux ASPH. JMHO but at minimum, the responsible party ought to be given two weeks unpaid disciniplary leave with six months probation upon returning to work. If there are no consequences, this type of monumental blunder will continue to occurr.

To be fair Leica seem to make some very odd mistakes like fitting lens barrels back to front, not screwing camera lugs on properly and posting the wrong parcels to the wrong people. I rather think it's a case of someone looking at their whole process rather than blaming one individual.
Herr Barnack Posted December 10, 2013 Share #23 Posted December 10, 2013 Harsh! Maybe a bit. But then - misplacing a $7350 USD lens and sending someone else's lens out by mistake is pretty harsh, isn't it? At least give the devil his due: I didn't advocate firing the offending employee. Now THAT would have been harsh.
pieterpronk Posted December 10, 2013 Share #24 Posted December 10, 2013 Oh come on, what kind of first world bickering is this about ridiculously priced lenses being delivered a little later than intended. Unpaid leave and probation?! Seriously? I guess in the end the CEO is responsible for everything that goes on inside Leica. So he and the whole board should be publicly flogged! Btw I once got a very nice big 21mm dslr lens in return after sending my 35mm biogon to Zeiss for a focus adjustment. I sent it back the same day and got my own lens 5 days later. These things happen. And a nice appology is all that is really needed. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Gibbo Posted December 10, 2013 Share #25 Posted December 10, 2013 I wonder if Mark wants his lens back or revenge?
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted December 10, 2013 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2013 What about a classic LEICA-duel between two Ms and unserviced LEITZ-lenses ... The winner and his lens get coded for free. Best GEORG
marknorton Posted December 10, 2013 Author Share #27 Posted December 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well they say you can judge an organisation by the way it responds when something goes wrong. I received an apologetic email from Stefan Daniel on Sunday and Andrea Frankl had it sorted out before 9am on Monday, so thanks to them. You cannot ask for more than that. I was unavoidably out when DHL tried to deliver today but I've redirected the delivery elsewhere so that by tomorrow evening, I'll be reunited with my lens. The error should not have happened but it's sorted out so the conspiratorialists can go back to sleep!

plasticman Posted December 11, 2013 Share #29 Posted December 11, 2013 JMHO but at minimum, the responsible party ought to be given two weeks unpaid disciniplary leave with six months probation upon returning to work. Well I did some detective work, and the name of the employee responsible for this blunder is Bob Cratchit.
jaques Posted December 11, 2013 Share #30 Posted December 11, 2013 The error should not have happened alls well that ends well- and most errors shouldn't happen - they just do- some call it Murphy's Law... I have sent thousands of cameras and lenses to people all over the world- no problems- and every now and then- it just happens: the old switcheroo- just like what happened here. Call it a brain malfunction- it is entirely human. Usually it can all be sorted amicably as in such a random situation the various parties are likely to be honest (given that most people are- relatively- honest). marknorton Posted December 12, 2013 Author Share #31 Posted December 12, 2013 The lens has now arrived back, together with (another) copy of the 99 self-portraits book. The lens looks fine though the weather is hardly going to stretch the flaring performance so difficult to know but I will go out looking the next time we have some bright sunshine. End of story.
