Has anyone seen a dealer tag on the front of a Leica Il?

I have seen photos of tags on the back of cameras but not on the front as at the link below.

I suspect it is original since this is a reputable site, but it is so visible!

Have people seen others of this sort?

I think Leica Mayfair might take a leaf out of the Berlin dealers book and mark all their stock in a similar way. I'd suspect it was a shop demo camera and the tag was to dissuade would be robbers from legging it down the street with a clearly identifiable camera. But buying at 'the right shop' was then, as now, a status symbol, so perhaps it was the equivalent of a Harrod's bag or similar status symbol? But as you say it was a trend at one time for dealers to mark all their cameras, usually in discreet places. I have had many old film cameras via Ebay that come with dealer tags and decals on the inside of the body, never any on the outside.

I've got a box camera somewhere which has a small ivory style tag pinned on the back.

I agree this one looks rather OTT and I can't imagine that they fitted tags like that as a matter of routine so Steve's theory may be correct.

Internet forums back then would have been full of people showing how they'd blacked out the tag or taped over it!
