A Bit of Luck

Last Friday I took film from the family trip France to be developed. While at the shop, I spotted with disbelieving eyes a 28-35-50 Tri Elmar, Current Version, and a 135 Apo Telyt. The shop had decided not to carry Leica anymore and so both lenses had closeout pricing. The Tri Elmar was $1,495.00 and the 135 was $1,395.00. I snapped both up with no hesitation.

Two weeks ago, I found a 90 Apo Summicron that was essentially new, but the warranty had been sent in by the previous owner. The price - $1,840.00.

The Tri Elmar is now glued to the M8. The 135 went into a bag with the M5 and the MP.

hi Guy,

i am very new to RF photography and my first leica lens is the first gen TE (and cv 15). i've had it for about a month and cant say that i very comfortable with it. I had a panasonic lc1 for about three years and grew quite used to f2 and such. i am now looking to possibly sell the TE and instead get something like a cron 35mm f/2. too fast or should i give it more time? my main concern is the bulkiness of the TE and limitations of f4. having a TE and a separate prime lense in that range is not an option at this stage, i'd rather get a portrait (probably a 75 cron) lens.

thanks

misha

Keep the Tri Elmar. It will be a great travel lens. Buy the 35 Sumicron. Each lens has its place.

When I purchased the 90 APO Summicron, I thought about selling the 90 Elmarit, but thought is all I did. Never sell any Leica gear unless you have to.

i know what you mean, but when i travel abroad its mainly for work, and for no less than six months (i work for an ngo) so i am not sure about needing a separate "travel" lens.

Yes Richard let me know how much the other 135 apo is and condition if you go back. My dealer owes me about 1300 from a trade and has been looking for one and i would put the extra money in it if he got one.

Guy:

The 135 is a brand new lens, old stock, uncoded. You will get the passport warranty when you send in the cards.

Can you even code a 135? I thought there were no codes for it. If there are, please let me know what it is! Actually all I want is 135 in the EXIF data. There is no vignetting etc. right now I look at the shot and either remember I used the 135, or realise it's the 135 because there is no other focal length there (hopefully I won't get this consufed with CV15 shots!).

You can code for the 2.8/135. Look in Carsten's list. You will have to push the frame-selector lever over to activate the coding though, as the 2.8 brings up the 90 mm framelines.Or modify the framelineselection on the mount.
