Annyone noticed that the M240 and SF58 can do HSS flash? I did and its great!!!

Just saying ^^

The High Speed Syns flash is useful as fill in flash for against stong back light situation when full apature of F1.4 and faster is required.

Yes, a great feature that for some reason isn't documented on the website or in the manual...

It is documented in the English and the German manuals -- Just search for HSS.

Hey jip, best message today after I bought my M. That was exactly what I was courious for when asking in the Leica shop early this year but they said NO I won't work. And you gave the right answer :)

Found it finally in the handbook page 66 in German and page 194 for the English version

Also want to let you know that I really like your work? Great image on your Flickr page!

Thanks allot and I must say I have not really used the HSS or flash in general yet on the M but I will once I need it and then feel happy I bought the SF58 last year for a whopping 600 euro (I think)

Happy to make people happy, and thanks for your compliments on my Flickr Gallery, I try doing my best, and am now in the process of creating a new personal website... Together with a graphical designer, devoper, and UX designer.

with a TTL extension cord. :)

What TTL extension cord supports HSS with the SF58?

HSS works for producing higher sync speeds if the lighting conditions aren't to demanding. You have to be pretty close to the subject, and the subject can't be too dark in relation to the background once you expose for that background to avoid blowing it out.

Speed-lights are relatively weak light sources, and HSS makes them even weaker.

Just sayin'

The SF40 works well too, in case you guys want to know.

Off camera flash provides much more flexibility & options to fill and light your subject in non ideal ambient light conditions and provide artistic appeal to the pics just as a wide open fast lens can provide.

On camera flash can also do the above but with limits through bouncing off bigger surfaces to redirect and soften the light source which SF40 can provide.
