TheGodParticle/Hari Posted November 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I'm currently in India since a few days and this morning my M9 wouldn't switch on All I see in the VF is "5 d" The camera is fully unresponsive. Cannot review any photos, INFO doesn't work ... Basically nothing works I tried with a fully charged battery and I tried with a different SD card from Sony as I usually use SanDisk cards Nothing is helping. Have any of you encountered this? Any ideas what I could do? I don't think there is a Leica store anywhere in a 1000 km radius :/ I do have a backup camera but I want to put my SE 24/3.8 + 50/1.4 ASPH and 90/2 APO to good use here over the next 2 weeks till I return to Germany Edit: I'm currently in Hyderabad, India
Advertisement Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Hi TheGodParticle/Hari, Take a look here Leica M9 "5 d" error. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
efkbl Posted November 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2013 The error is not supposed to be "5d" but "SD". It should be displayed when no SD card is present. Maybe you can try to see if the SD card contacts are somehow corroded and scratch them (with a thin knife? some sandpaper? I never checked if they can be reached easily)... Be careful not to damage anything or let metallic dust fall into the body though! The safest option is of course to send the camera to be repaired... I tried switching the camera on without the SD card and got the 5 d / SD error display in the VF Will try to clean the contacts and report back on my luck
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted November 13, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted November 13, 2013 Ok, thank you. This makes sense. I tried switching the camera on without the SD card and got the 5 d / SD error display in the VF Will try to clean the contacts and report back on my luck Unfortunately no luck Still shows an SD in the VF Logically, it should atleast power up? jdlaing Posted November 13, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2013 Unfortunately no luck Still shows an SD in the VF Logically, it should atleast power up? Display the INFO? Nothing ... Did you try another card? If the card was somehow formatted in a computer instead of the camera it may not be recognized.
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted November 13, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted November 13, 2013 Did you try another card? If the card was somehow formatted in a computer instead of the camera it may not be recognized. Yes I did ... I've been using a SanDisk Extreme 32gb since the first day (which btw is more than 3 years ago) I got the camera and only delete the files on my camera out of habit I tried with a Sony 32gb card which worked fine when I tested it on the same M9 when I bought the card and I get the same error with the Sony card as well Even without any card I see the 5 d blinking in the VF a few times before blacking out completely ... jaapv Posted November 14, 2013 Share #8 Posted November 14, 2013 Sure - it has been described before - failure of the card reading slot module. It is usually mechanical - look inside and you may sometimes see a bent contact. Send the camera in - the module needs to be replaced. It is just cheap part, but it requires quite a bit of disassembly to replace.

I just landed here 2 days ago and have till the end of November .... With a dead camera in my hand :/ I was really looking forward to putting my M9 to full use .... I absolutely love this camera and in more than 3 years it has never given me any problems whatsoever Over 60,000 images and dozens and dozens of trips The irony is that I live ~ 150 km away from Solms but this problem had to happen when I'm in INDIA!!!
