lethbrp Posted November 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I'm pretty close to ordering a M camera. I just wanted to ask your advice regarding what body colour to go for. I know that may sound daft, but does a silver body retain more secondhand value (should I every consider selling) than a black? Guest borge Posted November 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2013 I see more people purchasing the black bodies 2nd hand than silver. Silver are less prone to scratches and small dings.
jip Posted November 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 13, 2013 I've got a silver but if you wanna get it, it's gonna be over my dead, cold, body.
Peter H Posted November 13, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2013 Hi everyone, I'm pretty close to ordering a M camera. I just wanted to ask your advice regarding what body colour to go for. I know that may sound daft, but does a silver body retain more secondhand value (should I every consider selling) than a black? Best Pete No. It's just as likely to be the other way round, probably, but any differences will be tiny and unpredictable and not worth thinking about. Just choose the one you prefer and enjoy using it.

Leonil Posted November 13, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2013 I decided on silver mainly cause I thought it looked cool, and I don't care much for hiding my camera, I do want people to know Im taking a picture but not scare them with a huge SLR clack clack clack camera in their face. Silver also wears slowly and imo, has a better patina, from all the M3s Ive held, they tend to look in better nick and often look younger (they age well.) I cant wait to get my M next month.
tobey bilek Posted November 13, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Black chrome turns dull pretty fast no matter how carefully you handle it, then it remains stable. Satin chrome looks good until it wears off which is a long time. Black paint or laquor retains its shiny finish when handled, however it wears down to brass at wear points fairly fast. I bought a chrome M9P and love it. My M8 is black and looks ok. Black paint is a shelf or display beauty camera unless you are going for a beat up look. M9 standards are grey or black paint and probably epoxy which should last better then older paints, but it is still paint and a camera in this price range should not be paint in my opinion.

Ozoyo Posted November 13, 2013 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2013 I have hesitated a long time as they both look very nice, I have changed my order twice until I decided to let fate decide. I ended up with a silver and deep down that is what I wanted. It will probably age better and I am not convinced it is flashier than the black where the red dot and white M contrast more. george + Posted November 13, 2013 Share #12 Posted November 13, 2013 I wanted a black M8 and got a silver. Which turned out great. Then I wanted a silver M and ended up with an early black M. The paint seems to hold very well, not a mark after seven months of being thrown in a backpack with other things and quite a few clicks on the shutter. farnz Posted November 13, 2013 Share #13 Posted November 13, 2013 The silver ones take better pictures. Pete.

jaapv Posted November 13, 2013 Share #17 Posted November 13, 2013 I wanted a black M8 and got a silver. Which turned out great. Then I wanted a silver M and ended up with an early black M. The paint seems to hold very well, not a mark after seven months of being thrown in a backpack with other things and quite a few clicks on the shutter. The coating is certainly far more wear-resistant than the M9
HV25 Posted November 13, 2013 Share #18 Posted November 13, 2013 Silver body because it looks amazing with a silver lens and very good with a black lens. That makes 100 % of all lenses suitable choices for your M
Gibbo Posted November 13, 2013 Share #19 Posted November 13, 2013 I got a silver one. Does that help? Thought not
chocy0924 Posted November 14, 2013 Share #20 Posted November 14, 2013 I had a silver M8 which wore really well. But ended up with a black M. I initially wanted a silver one but in the end I wanted something different. No regrets for me with black. It looks awesome with my silver 50 lux pre-ASPH E46...
