flyalf Posted November 15, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted November 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you can stand the waiting time from trying to take a picture until something happening the Fuji is a good camera. But then again others are better than me and have managed the focus issues.
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hi flyalf, Take a look here Leica M Digital or Fuji X help please?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tookaphotoof Posted November 15, 2013 Share #22 Â Posted November 15, 2013 I'm curious how long you've tried the camera and when. Latest firmware? Especially with the new E-X2 on its way the secondhand X-E1 could be a nice camera next to my MP. I find it harder and harder to take the 5D2 with me if I don't even know if I will use it that day. suneohair Posted November 20, 2013 Share #23 Â Posted November 20, 2013 An Epson R-D1(s or x) could be a good way to find out if you like working with a rangefinder. Â The nice thing is that they are M-mount. So you can begin collecting Leica lenses if you do like it. It is only 6MP but it is a lovely camera. You can find them for around $1000 USD. The features look very appealing and that it is 6mp is no trouble as the pictures would be only for internet and pc monitor.  The price is a nice thing to. Thank you. CaptZoom Posted November 21, 2013 Share #25  Posted November 21, 2013 L. Paul  The differences between what any current generation digital cameras produce image quality wise are largely quibbles. Any camera that allows for interchangeable lenses is capable of producing fantastic images. The question then becomes of how good the photographer is at massaging the quality out of the camera, and here personal preferences and our unique vision comes into play. You've already discovered that the dSLRs form factor is something you do not prefer. That still leaves a lot of options on the table, not just the Leica M and Fuji X series. There are a plethora of offerings from the micro4/3 system, Sony's NEX system, and Samsung. Try to handle some of these cameras. The ones that fit your hands well, are the ones you should consider purchasing. The other piece of advice I would give you is to spend as little as possible on the camera body and as much as possible on the lens. In fact, spend more on the lens than the camera body.  Others have already described the functional differences between rangefinder and through the lens (SLR and mirrorless cameras) focusing. One thing that is worth iterating is parallax- rangefinder systems haves at, the others don't. Parallax is most significant when focusing at short distances (less than 1 (or 2 depending on camera-M8.2, M240) meter). You can try to compensate for this, but your still sacrificing some compositional accuracy. What is more difficult to compensate is taking photos in crowded environments where someone's head is blocking the lens but not the viewfinder and you don't realize this until you review the photos. dSLRs and mirrorless with LiveView do not have this problem.  If you're seriously considering an M8 or M9, why not get a cheap Russian Leica clone and try it out to see if you like this method of photography? You should be able to find a FED1, FED2, FED3 plus lens for under $100. They're film cameras, but you'll get a feel for rangefinder photography as well as manually controlling exposure. And $100 isn't a lot if money for the experience. Plus, you've waited this long to ditch the 20D, what's a couple more months?
Toshack10 Posted November 21, 2013 Share #26 Â Posted November 21, 2013 I have the XE1 and usually run it with a Summicron 50 but also have the Zeiss 1.8/32 as well as the Fuji 18-50 - I'm debating a shorter Leica lens at some point to overcome the 1.5 crop. Â I've had some good experiences with all three lenses but like the manual experience. My main gripes are that spot metering is far more painful than on my Digilux2 and that even with the focus peaking/zoom focusing it is (or I am) slow to focus. I'm sure I'd love an M but I cannot justify that expense at this point given my useage etc
viramati Posted November 22, 2013 Share #27 Â Posted November 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the M240, XE-1 and X-pro1. I use the M and X-pro1 together with 28 summicron on the Leica and XF35 (50 equivalent) on the fuji. I find this set up works eel together as I prefer the OVF on the X-pro1 to the EVF on the XE-1. That being said I use the XE-1 (will soon update to the XE-2) with my leica lenses as it has the better EVF and I find especially with the summilux 50 asph that it makes an excellent portrait camera. I find it easier to hit focus wide open with focus peaking and the EVF than I do on the M

On the positive side it had one of the best user interfaces and handling I have tried. I also tried the various AF focus options without much luck. tookaphotoof Posted November 23, 2013 Share #29 Â Posted November 23, 2013 Thanks Flyalf. I'm starting to enjoy photographing people, so quick and correct focussing is important to me. Think I really need to try to borrow one for a while I guess. Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
iedei Posted November 25, 2013 Share #30  Posted November 25, 2013 Hello forum. I joined the other day because i am thinking of buying an m8 or maybe m9 if cheap but my attention has now turned towards the Fuji Xe1. I have been reading lots of reviews of the fuji and they all say it is a very nice camera. Problem is some internet reviews says the fuji lenses are as good as leica lenses but 6 times cheaper. Do you think this is true or not.  I would like to read what the members think of this and i do under stand that you may prefer leica but as the cost of the fuji kit is so very much cheaper should i still purchase the leica.  I will try to find the internet reviews pages and put a link for it.  do you work for Fuji?  Fuji have a tendency to spread propaganda through forums and websites. your question sort of feels like that kind of propaganda. kivis Posted December 12, 2013 Share #31 Â Posted December 12, 2013 Had an M9 and absolutely loved it. But I could not afford to keep it. Now I have just got the Fuji X-E2 which is quite nice. It is not IMHO in the league of the M9. What do I mean by this? It is not an M shooting experience. But at $1000 I can live with it until such time I can justify almost 4 times the price for the M9. I prefer RF easier to AF because I can focus precisely on what I want, say on somebody's eye, but that is not to say that it is always easy or faster. I find I am getting fussier! tookaphotoof Posted December 13, 2013 Share #33 Â Posted December 13, 2013 Haven't had the time to test one out, yet. Anyways, I wouldn't know why it would be harder to focus on what you want with the X-E2. With the M you focus, then recompose. Set the the X-E2 to center focus only. I do the same with my dslr. Never used the autofocus points. Â Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Les Paul Posted December 19, 2013 Author Share #34 Â Posted December 19, 2013 Thanks for all the tips and advice, it's been very helpful and interesting reading. Â I'm now interested in the Panasonic/Leica hookup raised in this thread here http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/showthread.php?t=312116 so will hold fire to see what this brings. My 20D's served me nicely so can stay at my side a bit longer. Â Cheers.
