algrove Posted November 9, 2013 Author Share #41 Posted November 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) What about the finger loops for the M grips? Any shown up yet? I know grips are getting more and more available, but wondered about the very expensive finger loops. To me, the loop is so inexpensive to produce, it should be included in the price of the grip--just go on line, select your preferred side, and have Leica send it to you. After spending $895 on the MF grip, the last thing I want to do is shell out another $160 for a rubber band on steroids.
Advertisement Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Hi algrove, Take a look here MF Grip FINALLY shipping to me Monday. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jip Posted November 9, 2013 Share #42 Posted November 9, 2013 After spending $895 on the MF grip' date=' the last thing I want to do is shell out another $160 for a rubber band on steroids.[/quote'] Really the rubber bands are not EVEN ON steroids, they are just rubber, worth or let's say 1 dollar, maybe 2. Should've been included with the grip. Grip price? Too much, especially since it's not weather sealed, and not even working fully. Technically it is working but in the field it seems it fails at atleast one of its features.
norbertnl Posted November 9, 2013 Share #43 Posted November 9, 2013 Has anyone tried whether the handgrip enables one to use high speed flash sync (TTL-HSS) when using it with an SF58? Thanks, Norbert
nunnzzzz Posted November 9, 2013 Share #44 Posted November 9, 2013 I got my new multifunction handgrip as well and very disappointed. Also gonna return mine I think. I have played with it for a day and have yet to get ANY signal
algrove Posted November 9, 2013 Author Share #45 Posted November 9, 2013 I wonder if overcast versus blue sky makes a difference in the MF grips GPS performance?
Rick Posted November 9, 2013 Share #46 Posted November 9, 2013 So, let's recap... M240 announced in September 2012... first real deliveries start in April 20013 (6-months)... first accessory ships in November 2013 (13-months)... most of us probably won't see accessories until 2014 (14-months) . And, the grip doesn't work or work well and it is designed to use finger bands that aren't even included. What a joke. I guess you guys have your answer as to why it took so long to release. Leica was ashamed. Come on Sony!!! Please deliver a camera that works with my Leica lenses.
jplomley Posted November 9, 2013 Share #47 Posted November 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please deliver a camera that works with my Leica lenses. Amen to that. The only product Leica has left that interests me is the MM. It is the only body they offer with something unique. The sensor in the M is nothing special relative to the competition and the waiting period is a joke.
Guest WPalank Posted November 9, 2013 Share #48 Posted November 9, 2013 Agreed. I think the irony is that so many, possibly myself included, were all clambering for it (many posts too numerous to list), then feeling the pressure, possibly Leica rushes the product. Then all of us are pissed. I have to feel a bit sorry for Leica. Anyway, the ability to tether was my main focus although the use of GPS in the LightRoom Map Module while giving a presentation has the potential of being pretty awesome. gravastar Posted November 9, 2013 Share #49 Posted November 9, 2013 ..........Anyway, the ability to tether was my main focus although the use of GPS in the LightRoom Map Module while giving a presentation has the potential of being pretty awesome. So far I'm very pleased with the GPS function in conjunction with the Map Module in Lightroom 5.3rc and Reverse Geocoding enabled. In the brief time I've tried it I'm surprised by the accuracy, certainly within a few feet in a suburban environment. Photos taken within 4 to 5 yards of each other are clearly identified and separated. Altitude is also recorded, ideal for pictures of Alpine flora with the 100mm Apo Macro Elmarit-R and Elpro. I need the GPS function when hiking in unfamiliar surroundings and wish to return to the exact same spot when the light is more favourable. A good example would be in Epping Forest when you come across a glade with rare cushion moss and wish to return at a later date. Time will tell what the performance is in locations that are built up or heavily wooded. I've found that water condensation on a window prevents lock. Bob. algrove Posted November 10, 2013 Author Share #50 Posted November 10, 2013 Tried mine for first time today and I must say by my third shot it was wring. That means it took around 5-6 minutes for the first try with it. It even changed the time to the correct daylight savings time which I had forgotten to change manually or automatically. gravastar Posted November 10, 2013 Share #55 Posted November 10, 2013 Has anybody checked the accuracy of the MF Grip GPS coordinates against an iPhone? No, but the majority of ublox modules have an accuracy specification that says there is a 50% probability the measurement lies within a circle of radius 2.4 metres. We don't know which module the grip uses but with the limited experience I've had with the grip this figure seems to be close in practice. Bob. nunnzzzz Posted November 10, 2013 Share #56 Posted November 10, 2013 Ok so mine is now working fine The first time it took like 20 minutes to receive a signal Works like a charm now Sorry Leica but you should explain this in the manual
ModernMan Posted November 10, 2013 Share #57 Posted November 10, 2013 I can't afford an iPhone with all my Leica gear. Maybe that will change after I get an a7r. Maybe we can cobble together an M lens adapter for the iPhone and kill several birds with one stone.
gravastar Posted November 10, 2013 Share #58 Posted November 10, 2013 Ok so mine is now working fineThe first time it took like 20 minutes to receive a signal Works like a charm now Sorry Leica but you should explain this in the manual Certainly shouldn't take that long for a cold start. Most of the ublox modules are specified at around 30 seconds for a cold start in the open with a view of the horizon around. My grip seems to meet this. However in a built up area I've found it can take longer - maybe up to one and a half minutes. Do be aware that a hand or finger over the top of the grip will attenuate the signal and prevent lock. algrove Posted November 11, 2013 Author Share #59 Posted November 11, 2013 Ok, got my RRS MC-L, L bracket machined by my race shop and here are some images. This one shoes where I had the flange machined flush with the base in two locations. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! This shows the end where I decided to machine maybe ⅛" from the base so the thumb wheel on the grip would not bind up or rub. The last photo shows where I had machining done on the base of the bracket closest to the L itself. This is view looking straight down at the base of the L bracket. Trust this helps. algrove Posted November 12, 2013 Author Share #60 Posted November 12, 2013 Ok, got my RRS MC-L, L bracket machined by my race shop and here are some images. Algrove, is the RRS MC-L compatible with Arca-Swiss Cube ? What is the Arca-Swiss Cube? The MC-L has a normal QR plate that is universal from what I know. Perhaps best to ask RRS or look on their website.
