Cyril Jayant Posted November 18, 2013 Share #41 Posted November 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok so I said from capture to PP. I had a successful photography business using Canon digital and scanned negs so im familiar with PP techniques. My point is that the m8 dng files are a different starting point and for me this creates a different challenge I will say PP is subjective because we all see the end result differently. . And have a different vision for the end result. I am interested in peoples experience of shooting with a rangefinder. . following years of shooting slr Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Andy, I have been using M8 for about 4 years and it is upgraded to M8.2 and it works very beautifully with out any problem. I never used a Dslr so I can't tell anything about dificulties between the two systems. All I can say is according to my PP I am shooting on DNG Raw, using Aperture /PSCS5 on a Mac. My PP looks better and their quality is very different than what I see from other photographers. Specially my B&W which I do more than the colours,I guess my photography with M8 is far more better than from some M9 photography. I don't think there's any difficulty in finding a different in two different files done in two different exposers by two cameras. It is something to do with how you want to look your pictures then it is something to do with software you use to set up for your last result. Andy you are right PP is subjective and it depend on your end result, M8 cameras are the best for me and it gives the best files so for me it is the most important point to start with. Advertisement Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Hi Cyril Jayant, Take a look here October '13 - Still a good time to buy an M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Cyril Jayant Posted November 18, 2013 Share #42 Posted November 18, 2013 Ho to all! I'm still valutating to buy an m8 and the notice that for some problems it cannot be repaired make me worries. Is right than only by LCD default it will be impossible to repair the camera?and is sure that leica will be offer a newest model in discount?these are the only problems with this beatiful camera that make me thinking a lot before to buy it! Hi Staka, welcome to the forum, I am a M8 user and I have been using mine for about 4years. I had a problem and it was fixed by the Leica and it was upgraded to M8.2 and it is going very stronger. Any cameras are venurable for damages and failure for electronics and mechanism . It is applicable for any thing not only camera . I think it is true about any other brand. I think Leica is a well known brand talked by most of the people who do photography. but lot of people who talk can't afford it other than just talk nonsense against. So be careful we never hear any other brand that fails or that docent mean it is not happening any where . I paid lot of money for my for my M8 and even for the upgrade I have dumped some more money. Now I can't get that money back as the M8 has gone very cheaper. Today i have seen a M8.2 camera under 6000 shutter clicks for £ 1.200 and it is a real bargain . I bought my m6 camera for that prise . so there's nothing else to tell you if you find a camera in this range , go for it. and forget what is going to happen ahead and enjoy your photography. I am not thinking to have a Upgrade for M9 for the time being as I am waiting for the prises to go down . So if I have a M8 for a bargain I am going for it. MOZ Posted December 18, 2013 Share #44 Posted December 18, 2013 I'm about to get a wonderful M8 (chrome version) in a Leica store. It was used (not really in fact) by an old collector man and shows only 1050 frames It really is like "new from the box", untouched... Amazing ! I'm buying it for 1100€, comes with a 6 month garanty from the store... Will use it with my MM...
Jeff S Posted December 18, 2013 Share #45 Posted December 18, 2013 Will use it with my MM... Your profile shows the M(240). Did you switch to M8/MM combo? If so, try the M8 for b/w, not just color...you might be surprised at the quality. In any case, you'll need a cut IR filter for best color or b/w. Jeff Hi Jeff, Sorry, old profile, i just updated it... I planned to purchase a M (240) last winter but switched at the last minute to an MM and just LOVED IT so much that i decided to keep it and not going for the M (that i tried after and liked less, very less)... I work color with roll 120 film (and soon 4x5 film) but i wanted to try the M8, for the crop factor and the beautifull colors it gives too. I think it's a great piece of art work, i'm going to enjoy using it a lot too... I'll see for the b&w but the MM is so powerfull, i'm using it 90% of time... david strachan Posted February 1, 2014 Share #48 Posted February 1, 2014 Thanks. I got my M8. I l found my love again. About the canon / leica post process.. I think the Leica needs a little bit more work on colors to make them "pop". But it could be my Sonnar lens. It's very soft (which I like). But I prefer the M8 files. Try using Bridge, can then open JPG's and DNG's into Camera Raw v 5.7 (set in menu). Just open JPG and tool a little with contrast, and a quick brush of other sliders. ACR works well with the M8. In B&W you can change the light of the primary colours and make whatever B&W you can imagine. Fantastic for light temperature balance, even shot in auto. have fun cheers Dave S
