jdlaing Posted April 16, 2007 Share #21  Posted April 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yep - low angle shooting via LCD has been added - it adds a sub-menu when you press and hold display. As I said elsewhere earlier: "Incidentally I was out shooting yesterday (RAW) but set the jpeg "thumb" to lowest quality and smallest size. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the approx.0.5Mb jpegs were. Could this be to do with the compression or have Panasonic been fiddling with the processing in the v2 firmware update? I must run some comparisons at various jpeg sizes.qualities. (Oh no! - not more work )"  Leica had the low, and high, angle shooting mode from the beginning. All it does is brighten the image on the screen.
Advertisement Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Hi jdlaing, Take a look here Leica Digilux 3 and Panasonic DMC-L1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Riley Posted April 16, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted April 16, 2007 Hmmm... I find that interesting and a bit worrying. Without knowing more detail of the reviews and just what the reviewer especially liked on the D3 vs. L1 I find it odd as AFAIK the LCD/Liveview are identical. Starry eyed over the red dot? Â well i was told the reputable ColorFoto from Germany tested the D Lux twins on separate occasions and found the Leica to have more resolution, figure that one out. pelikan1931 Posted April 18, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted April 18, 2007 can you install the Leica firmware onto the Panasonic?
dugby Posted April 18, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted April 18, 2007 can you install the Leica firmware onto the Panasonic? Â I suggest no one can really answer this question, as the scenario is currently not "testable". Â However a D3 user may be pondering the....Can one install the L1's V2.0 FW onto a D3.... Alessandro Fanchin Posted April 18, 2007 Author Share #25 Â Posted April 18, 2007 Ok guys I am going to scan the 2 reviews. You will be able to read the text (in Italian), but unfortunately I don't think that you will notice the differences in the pictures in the scan copy. Â Please let me some days and I will come back. dugby Posted April 19, 2007 Share #26  Posted April 19, 2007 Leica had the low, and high, angle shooting mode from the beginning. All it does is brighten the image on the screen.   James I am curious.....What version does your D3 report as it's installed firmware ?  Theses are the steps to display the firmware on the LCD.  # Mount the lens onto the camera body and then insert the SD memory card or the SDHC memory card. # Set the camera’s power switch to ON. # Press the playback button to set the camera to playback mode. # Press the [down arrow] button , while holding down the [FUNC.2] button . karlitos Posted April 19, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted April 19, 2007 As there are FW versions for lens and body could this mean that the body and lens are upgradeable seperately? Â Karlitos
jdlaing Posted April 19, 2007 Share #29 Â Posted April 19, 2007 Yes.....they can be. In the case of Olympus there were more body firmware upgrades for the E-1 than for the original 14-54 lens. Â They can be firmware upgraded separately. Â In 4:3 bodies and lenses they "talk" to each other thru software.
karlitos Posted April 20, 2007 Share #30 Â Posted April 20, 2007 It would be nice to think that lenses could be upgraded when future cameras are launched. If future cameras are launched of course. Nobody really knows how much energy Leica will put into this system. I just hope it's not a 'one hit wonder'. Â Karlitos.

dugby Posted April 20, 2007 Share #32 Â Posted April 20, 2007 Mine shows Version 1.0 on both the lens and the body. Â Thankyou James. Â Now when you set your D3 to "Live View" and next press and hold "Display" for about 1 sec what do you see on the LCD ?
jdlaing Posted April 20, 2007 Share #33 Â Posted April 20, 2007 Well....... Â Other than all the regular data, the screen gets very bright and the little icon for high angle shooting pops up down in the left corner.
dugby Posted April 20, 2007 Share #34  Posted April 20, 2007 Well....... Other than all the regular data, the screen gets very bright and the little icon for high angle shooting pops up down in the left corner.  Thankyou James, for this information.  The L1 with V2.0 firmware behaves differently the the D3 at this point. The L1 presents a large UP arrow and a DOWN arrow in the center of the LCD. The user now selects whether they want to perform High or Low angle shooting. Then the LCD is brightened for either the High or Low angle selected by the user.
jdlaing Posted April 20, 2007 Share #35 Â Posted April 20, 2007 Interesting. Â When I tried the Leica in the store before I bought it the Technician had shown me the high and low angle shooting after I groused about no articulating screen. I already owned the E-330. Â Here is what I figure happened. Â Panasonic came out with their version of the body. Leica studied it and changed the firmware to the liking of their engineers. Â Leica firmware was then studied by Panasonic and they incorporated the features they liked and upgraded their firmware. Â Leica has now in the works their first firmware upgrade albeit with no release date. Â Â This........................will be fun to watch. Â As I said on another Forum.......the collaberation meetings for 4:3 with Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic, Leica, Sigma and who knows who else must be a riot. I wonder what language the Powerpoint Slides are in?
