Same here. I re-discovered the WATE with the M240. The better high-ISO performance and the EVF greatly extend its usability.

Pair it with the MATE and add a 90 of your choice and you've got a great travel kit that covers all your needs.

My kit consists of MATE, WATE, 50mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 and a 90 Summarit.

Whilst we're on the topic, for those of you who have the WATE and 21-SEM and/or 18-SEM how does the performance of the WATE compare with these fixed focal length lenses?

There's certainly not much difference in maximum aperture, and the 21 SEM is a stellar lens but I've never used the WATE.

To me the fixed FL's are better. I used to use my 18 all the time until the M came out and I can now use my 15/2.8 R. The SEM21 is probably the best Leica WA available today.

Thanks.

If I bought the WATE I'd still keeping the 21SEM, its the R zoom that would go.

I was wondering about whether I need the Frankenfinder with the WATE on the M240 if I have the EVF. I really like using OVFs, such as my Leica 21mm VF. But then I thought I'll need one for the Monochrom. (?)

I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow .......

No MM here, but FWIW I couldn't be without the Frankenfinder on M8/M9. I'm happy to use only the EVF on the M240, though.

Not a real answer for replacing the Frankenfinder with the WATE, but I find from time to time the 21-24-28 finder 12013 comes in very handy on the MM. It is cantered so as to be centered over the M lens axis and it has a hot shoe thumb screw for keeping it attached while taking camera in and out of bag.

Mark,

On my M9 I use the Frankenfinder for lenses from 16 to 28 mm. It's wonderful for framing.

It also has a bubble in the finder to keep the camera level in landscape orientation.

Also the parallax adjustment comes in quite handy from time to time.
