prav66 Posted April 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm about to pick up a CV 15/4.5 & was researching the appropriate finder. I'm leaning towards the Zeiss 21mm finder (cost increase over the CV one seems worth it). However, seeing as the crop factor on the M8 is really more a 1.25x, the view of the 15mm corresponds more to a 19mm view so I'm wondering if the 21mm finder is too tight for this lens. I believe Zeiss is coming out with a 18mm one along their 18mm lens soon & this seems to fit the CV lens better. At least with calculations on paper. I have no way of of course of really knowing short of buying it & trying it. Any users out there who can provide input on this? Much appreciate it.. Again my thanks to this forum for the incredible feedback and generous assistance of all its members...
Advertisement Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Hi prav66, Take a look here Best finder for CV 15 on M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ario Arioldi Posted April 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2007 I believe that the crop factor is 1.33 and not 1.25, so a 21 mm viewfinder should be fine. In any case I actually use a 21 mm finder (CV) and for me works perfectly. Ario
finkaudio Posted April 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2007 Hi, I bought a RICOH finder with 21 and 28mm frame lines - I'm happy with the quality and I only need one for 15mm and 21mm lenses Best regards KH
Nitnaros Posted April 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 15, 2007 Prav, The crop factor of the M8 is 1.33, so a 21mm finder is what you need. I am using the CV15 with the 21mm CV finder. No problems at all - good visibility of the frame lines and good accuracy in terms of capture preview. Recommended. Peter
scho Posted April 15, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2007 I use the CV 21mm finder on my M8 with the CV 15 and it is certainly adequate. The finder came with the CV 21/4 that I also use so no point in buying another 21 finder.
Guest M8-Freak Posted April 15, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 15, 2007 the best finder i´ve ever seen is the frankenfinder from the WATE. you can use with the CV12 too.
egibaud Posted April 15, 2007 Share #7 Posted April 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) if price is not an issue the Zeiss one is great. This is what I have and it is very very clear.... it just cost the price of the lens :-(
robsteve Posted April 15, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 15, 2007 I use the Leica 21mm finder and it is almost perfect in framing for the CV15mm. Robert
hdrmd Posted April 15, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 15, 2007 I agree; the Leica 21 mm finder seems perfect for the 15. DR
carstenw Posted April 16, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 16, 2007 There may be different versions of the Leica finder. The ones I checked out, looking to buy for my CV15, we so soft either in the centre (!) or at the edges, that I decided just to wait until I buy my CV21 with finder, and then use that. Stephen.s1 Posted April 16, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 16, 2007 CV 21 finder works just fine on my M8. Guess it's the best for me.
chris_tribble Posted April 16, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 16, 2007 Using the Leica 21 finder that came with my pre-asph 21 Elmarit. Works fine.
sean_reid Posted April 16, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 16, 2007 The best is probably the Zeiss 21 finder but the CV 21 finder is just fine and much less $$. Cheers, Sean
gdewitt Posted April 16, 2007 Share #14 Posted April 16, 2007 My CV 21 finder, which I use with my CV 15, is horribly crooked. I can't get straight horizons. I don't know if anyone else has a problem or if I got a lemon.

psquared Posted April 16, 2007 Share #17 Posted April 16, 2007 My CV 21 finder frameline is not perfect either. I've resorted to using the CV21 finder to see what's in the scene and checking the internal finder's framelines to align the horizon and/or verticals. tom0511 Posted April 16, 2007 Share #18 Posted April 16, 2007 I own the Leica 21 external finder and a Ricoh 21/28 finder and lately I have used the Ricoh and do like it. Some say its 3:4 but so far I feel its working pretty good and allows me to use it for the cv 15 and the Leica 21mm , and its a nice smal size which - IMO - fits the character of a Leica M camera. cheers, >Tom the different thing in my experiecne is to level the camera correctly
photolandscape Posted April 16, 2007 Share #19 Posted April 16, 2007 My CV 21 finder, which I use with my CV 15, is horribly crooked. I can't get straight horizons. I don't know if anyone else has a problem or if I got a lemon. Gary, funny you should mention that. I got one recently (the CV21 finder) and everything I shot was about 5 degrees off axis. Turned out that the glass element in the finder was installed improperly. Sent it back and got one with correctly adjusted framelines. SP
jlancasterd Posted April 16, 2007 Share #20 Posted April 16, 2007 My CV 21 finder, which I use with my CV 15, is horribly crooked. I can't get straight horizons. I don't know if anyone else has a problem or if I got a lemon. I have exactly the same problem with my CV 21mm finder - it's about 10 degrees 'off', and all of my trial shots with the M8 and a CV 15mm have horizons sloping to the right. It's going back to Robert White tomorrow for an exchange.
