What do you want in the next digital M?

I kind of like the approach Sony has taken with the a7s keeping the megapixel low and increasing the low light performance. Seems like a very smart thing to do. Maybe Leica could consider this in the next M. Keep it at 24 or even 18 megapixel but increase ISO performance with better software.

I love the led frame lines and probably possible with a simple firmware update, Leica could implement an option in the menu where you can switch off the frame lines you don't need or that it only shows the frame lines of the lens you put on.

Think I would quite like that feature.

Indeed. With coded lenses on the 240 there's no reason at all to show 75mm frames with 50mm frames.

This has been discussed ad nauseam. As Mark Norton shows here, the frame lines continue to be mechanical, not electronic; only the illumination of them has changed.

Until the system is changed in another M design, not a firmware or coding issue.

M 241 starter set.

Get 50% off from lens price if purchase M 241 + cron 35 asph or M 241 + cron 50.

:p

Well, you might have a chance of that. You'll have to purchase the Summis as an extra at an additional 50% though.

As a long time Leica owner and user I sadly wan't the next M to be more like the Sony A7S, and at a normal price point based on how the camera performs (so drop the price by two thirds of the current cost).

Also, I want Leica to ditch the rangefinder/OVF completely. This mechanism is so horribly prone to being knocked out of alignment it's not even funny. What's the point of a camera that's built like a tank not being able to survive a slight knock without becoming completely unusable without LV/EVF? I would rather want a superb high-quality EVF solution like the Sony A7's and the Fuji X-T1. Things will ALWAYS be properly in focus even if the lens needs calibration, as what you see is what you get.

This change would also make the turnaround time for service at Leica drop by two months on average compared to today probably

I love my M240, but it's more for the novelty nowadays, not due to it's photographic capabilities.

Indeed. As nothing so categorises a Leica M-series rangefinder as the complete absence of "a viewfinder combined with a lens-coupled split-image/dual-image rangefinder". They should have given those away years ago in favour of a reflex mirror with instant return mechanism and automatic diaphragm. That would have made it far more distincitive that those SLR cameras.

If you don't want a rangefinder camera then why on earth would you pay so much money for one :confused::confused:

Full frame and works better with Leica glass!

An M with an EVF at a price between the a7s and M240 would be nice ... but perhaps too nice for Leica when you can spend much more on a Rangefinder and the 500 dollar 200 dollar EVF

I'm very satisfied with the Zeiss ZE en CFE lenses I have. The downside is it's hard to focus quickly. That's why I have the Leica M and some of their lenses. Both analog and digital.

Lose the rangefinder on future M bodies and I'm off to another less expensive brand in combination with Zeiss again.
