New M lens revolver for the new FF Sony

There was a three-lens-revolver for Leica M.

It is dear to collectors today.

Historians know better, but it either took LTM lenses or the M lenses had to be modified.

Couldn't such a thing be built for 2 fast M lenses to go on the new Sony?

The grip on the Sony stands in the way for a revolver.

But a vertical slider for 2 Leica M lenses

for my Summilux 35 + Summicron 75mm

or, since the Sony has an EVF Cron75 + Apo Telyt135

or two wide-angles for zone focusing,

would be something I'd seriously consider buying.

4 group of winners:

Leica - lenses

Sony - body

Indi (for example Novoflex?) - excellent quality new component

Users - happy :)

The fifth group could be the dealers/ / ebay distributors

The independent manufacturer should be fast (that counts out venerable Novoflex- waited for an article on their list for over a year and gave up). Because Sony ( and Zeiss and why not Sigma etc. ) might also produce fast primes with AF 2014-15 (but they'd be too bulky).

My first thought is that such an item, if engineered to support also a "heavy" lens like the AT 135, and to be operated quickly keeping into account the need to assure a precise positioning of the lens, must be VERY well made and robust , so that :

- It will be no cheap

- It will alter significantly the balancing / handling of a "light" camera like the A7 is... what means to point the A7 with, say, a 75 in position and a 135 protruding in front of the set from a lower point ? The centre of gravity of the camera would be totally displaced from its "natural" position(s) : roughly, somwhere along the lens'axis, depending on the lens itself

- So , it would need a handle of its own (indeed, like the venerable Leitz 3-lens turret) ... something shaped like the handle of the Linhof 220... ;)

- At the end, You had a set in which handle+sliding device+lenses exceedes by far the weight/size of the A/7 in itself... a camera that has "small size" as one of its flagships

. And, in conclusion, I think that the oldstyle solution "two bodies" (even not too costly) would be by far preferable in user terms (not to speak in Sony's )

OK, one M body (WA) +

one Sony body (>50mm) - if it wasn't so loud

But I don't think that it would be too much of a challenge for a very experienced Chinese manufacturer to make such a part lighter and much less costly than the Sonny FF body. Though I'm aware that his thinking will lead to decisions.

No grip please for two lenses only!

You're perfectly right: one size of it would not work with all lenses. Which pairs work and which don't: a logistic nightmare worthy of the Leitz catalogues. With computer simulation (including the angle of view and with/without the lenshood) the manufacturer wouldn't need to buy a complete stock of Leica lenses.

Real world:

Still hoping for a very sturdy base-plate adaptor for one lens, that fits the centered stative mount screw of the M89), which resembles the double lens-holder-base-plate for the film M.

RF focus practice asks for extra time to practice 2 lens change with the eyes closed (not high over the sofa :o ).

Two cameras, that's not casual hence not

Had a look at the Benser base plate for film Leicas, that holds two lenses. It is not for me, because of the risk of accidently dropping a lens out of it. The practice of changing two lenses out of the camera bag with the eyes closed (not too high above the sofa) went well this afternoon.

Still think, that a two M-lens slider for a Sony FF mirrorless camera, would be the first thing I'd try to get, if I was to buy a Sony FF.

The photographers, who like to carry two cameras could have four M lenses all ready.

Most certainly, M lenses keep their value over time much better than Sony cameras. So not buying two camera bodies, while using many M-lenses with very fast interchangeability does make sense.
