Updating from LR4 to 5

Recommended Posts

While some tools and controls are new, the process version remains the same as the one used in 2012. Unlike the change from 2010 to 2012, the develop module in LR5 does not have a option to reprocess images based on a new engine.

That doesn't mean, of course, that your results will be identical since some new LR5 features may allow for better control and results. But that's up to you.

Actually that's not quite true - it's still there, just harder to find in LR5. You need to look for the little lightning bolt icon under the histogram in the Develop module. Hover over it and it shows the PV previously applied by an earlier version of LR, and offers you the same options to upgrade single shot or whole filmstrip

PS Wholly agree with Jeff that the upgrade is worth doing.

Clearly what I meant was that the latest is process version 2012, which happened before LR 5. But if an image was processed earlier based on version 2003 or 2010, then the icon will appear to update to 2012.

But the OP was specifically asking about LR 4, so his pics are likely processed under 2012 already, so he won't see the icon for those pics. LR 5 didn't introduce a new processing engine.
