Luckily, I've managed to really dwindle my camera gear and photographic lifestyle down to one camera and one 35mm lens for the last two years.

The M is damn beautiful and the Summarit 35mm, while not super fast is plenty for what I need and is still a damn good lens.

There is nothing like giving yourself the option of either making pictures or not, and leaving the gear choices out of it!

What is that "battery cover" doing there?

Are you talking about the original finish as supplied new (which isn't leather)?

When i had my M9 sensor (free) replacement , there was an option to have "A la carte" leather at a reduced price. I did, and have to say it is superb. The leather is very thin and fits tightly and feels very nice when holding the camera. Hardest part was deciding the colour! Bought the matching strap too.

Finally! After 12 weeks of pampering in Wetzlar my M240 has returned refreshed, renewed, relaxed, reset, adjusted and with a new color! Am really happy with how this came out.

Just thinking loud (on keyboard :) ) well, maybe, it will  be just simpler and better just strip down some old camera an use a real one part? I know it's absolutely barbaric 📸

A Yashica GT Electro! There are quite a few members who have posted photographs of their wonderful '60s / '70s Yashica cameras in the 'Nicht Immer Nur Kaviar' thread over in the Historic section. One interesting thing about these cameras is that the lens is offset towards the wind-on lever side of the camera - very unusual! - which might make them attractive to those photographers who are 'left-eyed'...

They really are lovely performers! Just for fun here's a snap of my 'twin' of your GT Electro 35 and accompanied by her 'full set' of optional bits'n'bobs;

Philip.

My "new" M240 arrived today. I am very pleasantly surprised to see that the previous owner somehow got rid of the white M on the front, and has also replaced the red Leica sticker with a black one. The camera looks quite nice, at first I thought maybe they sent me the wrong one...is this a monochrome? It's not a monochrome, that would have been an expensive mistake. Initially I was not happy, but the more I look at it, the more I 'prefer' it with this look. After taking a few 'test' shots, I just know that the M8 simply will have to go now.

Sure! Putting them under bright light, makes me realize I probably should clean them up from time to time haha! Also, I regret not using a half case for the M8 and M6. Any recomendations for a halfcase for the M240? Are they comfortable while shooting?

I'm quite happy with the 50mm summicron, and the 35mm skopar. i think adding a 28mm lens would complete the set, and will get a lot of use on the m240 with its live view at the very least.

Update! My M240 has found a new home to live in. Really like this case, especially the flap that blocks the screen. Amazing how blocking the screen can help me focus more on actually taking photos.

Pretty sure that's a Luigi case, finest on the market to my mind. I know I love mine.

You're kinda a buzz-kill, aren't you?

I'll buzzkill the buzzkill. An M Monochrom (246) is spectacularly challenging camera to use - due a lot to the lack of forgiveness for highlight blowout.

Seeing as I have been quite vocal about my opinions on the new M in regards to the CMOS vs CCD debate, I think it is only fair that I also tell you guys about my positive experiences with the M.

I bought the M not for base iso (obviously if you've read about my ccd preference), but because I dislike how the M9 and the M8 function beyond base iso. And with the dark weather in The Netherlands during the winter AND because I get asked to photograph at other times and other places than where I can usually shoot at base iso, I got the M.

This weekend I had this wedding vows renewal thing to photograph, so I took my M. I was quite nervous about taking a M camera to a setting where the M9 would just be hit and miss. (Sure sometimes the M9 pictures come out nice at iso 1250 and if you're really lucky you can pump up iso beyond that, but really the hit and miss thing stays.)

And I have to say I am overjoyed at how it performed. Using a 50 summilux and a 28 summicron I got the pictures I wanted.

I was actually stunned at how it performed at a place where it was always almost impossible to take pictures because of the ugly and random temperature lighting.

I shot the whole thing at iso's of 1000 to 3200 and was able to salvage even badly exposed shots in lightroom to a degree that I never could before.

Basically the M did what I bought it for: it enables me to use my rangefinder camera at social indoor events. So kudos to Leica for delivering.

Shot RAW or jpeg?

Why not?

After two months working with the M I can say: I love my M.

It sounds wonderful. It feels wonderful. Takes great pictures. And also thanks to Luigi it looks great!
