Lightmeter problem

On selective (centre spot), all bars are lit and triangle indicates I'm outside measure at every speed.

On the two others (multizone and integral), it's off 2 stops.

Sounds like the metering cells went on the R9. I had it happen to my R9 a few days before I needed it for a trip, but Kindermann Canada had the parts and fixed it in a day.

It is not a cheap fix. The R9 and R8 are made as modules and to fix the metering, they replace the mirror box module. I think mine cost about $600 to repair.

Ouch. On a backup camera rarely used, it's disappointing.

My Leica dealer has an in-house fixer which is quite efficient.

He seemed to say it was not that bad to tweak.

My R8 required expensesive repair for the meter. This seems to be a weakness of the R8 and R9. I believe that Andy Barton gave up on his R8/9 due to meter issues.

How long ago was that Mr Robsteve?

It was probably six or seven years ago. With taxes and shipping the bill might have reached $700. The part, which is the whole mirro rbox, may be about $350 to $400 and they need to take the whole camera apart to fix it. Plus they need the Leica software to setup the camera afterwards. It is a repair that probably can only be done by Leica themselves or a regional distributor that has the Leica test equipment for the R8/R9.

If you do get it repaired, they can also setup the metering to a global -1/3 stop which gives near perfect exposure with the DMR. I had this done and and my exposures were dead on with the DMR. Prior to this I was using -1/2 but this was a tad too much.
