Service of camera/lens in store?

If I buy a Leica lens or M camera from a store, and there is an issue with it, can I just take it back to the store and rely on them sending it to Leica if needed? I'd hate to have to think about packaging and shipping cost for a new product. I would expect to do that in Denmark where I'm from (where they are essentially responsible for manufacturing errors for the first 2 years), but I'm not sure how the rules are in the US.

Does anyone have experiences with Fireside Camera in San Francisco?

If I can just drop it off there I'll happily pay the sales tax difference between buying it in the store instead of at B&H.

Thanks!

Better doing this if you don't want to bear risks of handling, storage and transportation.

If you live within the EU there are no problems with customs duties when sending the camera direct to Solms. If you are in a non EU country it may be easier to get the dealer to deal with the paperwork, transportation and insurance.

This situation may change if the current negotiations regarding free trade between the EU and North America bear fruit.
