Majority of my lenses are R lenses: 21-35, 28-90, 80 and 100 macro. My only M lens is 50/1.4 ASPH. I should be ok with A7R then.

I have the 28-90 and, from what I have seen so far from Bart de Vries on getdpi, it seems to perform well on the a7R. That lens by itself would be enough reason for me to get the A7R as I am not willing to leitax any of my R lenses for use on my D800E.

With regards to the 50/1.4 ASPH M lens it seems useable when stopped down, as demonstrated by dwbell in this thread. Shot wide open I want to see for myself, including applying the LR flat field correction, before making up my mind.

I'm not sure I agree with that completely. I tested both and found the all Sony system to be far superior at 35mm. No compromise, just a clear winner. I can't test the FE glass on the Leica so there is no comparison to be made there.

A couple more data points.

Yes, you will be happy with the A7R. Congradulation!

Put them on a tripod for the best outcome.

Thank you Thomas.

I am not too worried about 50/1.4 ASPH. If it requires too much PP, I might just get a 50/2 DR which seems to do well on A7R.

What I meant was the acceptance of crappy lens performance of M lenses on a Sony....... but not when used on a Leica......

From my experience of the FE 35/2.8 today (virtually in the dark) the results are obviously better than the M 35/2.... with minimal edge fall-off in quality, so basically I agree with you. Not surprising as they are designed for the camera

The combi is very nice in use ...... although I have had to resort to full manual as both of the 'unintelligent modes' (and P,A & S to a lesser extent) seem to assume I have Parkinsons disease and choose some bizarre speed/f combos......

I think I will abandon use of this camera for all but a very limited list of M lenses ...... and then only till better Sony alternatives appear. Can't say I will abandon Leica for it though ..... but as a high quality compact autofocus complementary system it fits the bill.

I admit to not reading this whole thread so forgive me in advance for asking what I'm sure is in here somewhere. When you say you say you tested both do you mean you compared the Sony to the M9 or the M?

May be hard to believe but I managed to get hold of a nearly new A7 today from a London Dealer for a great price. So far have only tested it with my CV 35 1.2 VII and that is looking good. will have wait to get my 50 lux asph back from service to see how it behaves with that

As I have not touched an A7/R yet, amazingly I can agree on something.

The E-M1 (with the new 12-40 and 75-300 lens) is an amazing tool.

Certainly as a walk around setup.

Nevertheless, I am really looking forward to the A7R.

I have no interest in the A7, based on my experience with M9 and D800E!

Well, one could argue that landscape and architecture are generally both tripod mounted and up in the smaller apertures, where the differences in the corners are much much less significant, whereas the quality in the centre 70% is actually improved.

Yes. Virtually all of my interiors are made at f8 if I want a lot of DOF with a 17. Sometimes the 24 has to be stopped down further or I use a 35 or longer lens either stopped down for a lot of DOF or sometimes wide open and tilted to isolate a detail.

BTW a lot of architectural interior shots have ceilings walls or floors at the corners. Generally there is little detail there. Exteriors often have sky, grass, sidewalk or roads at the corners. Tight shots of buildings that fill the entire frame with detail are often made with longer lenses.

I find it fascinating to see what lenses work with the A7r, and which don't. It isn't entirely intuitive.

I look forward to someone with more lenses, more time and better testing skills building up a chart of Leica lenses which work well.

My observation is as follows:

Work well:

AA Summicron 90/2 ASPH

Summilux 75/1.4

Noctilux 0.95

Summilux 50/1.4 ASPH

Summilux 21/1.4 ASPH

Acceptable:

Summilux 35/1.4 ASPH (FLE)

Summicron 28/2 ASPH

Not acceptable:

Zeiss Distagon T* 15/2.8 ZM (disappointing)

Anyone care to make a start with this?

Cheers

John

Before this enters folklore I would say that my copy starts up in half that time.

Yes, it's quicker than my M240, not as quick as my X100S. In all cases (as in M240 & A7R & X100S) quick enough for my reasonable speed shooting. Can't speak to "street" style shooting.
