wlaidlaw Posted September 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) A friend, who is a professional photographer recently went to a presentation by Toshiba. He was given 2 x 32GB SDHC-II Exceria Pro cards, with extremely high read/write speeds (240 MB/s). As he only uses CF cards, they are of little use to him for his current equipment (all medium format). Any reason these would not work in the M? I don't want to get them sent over from the USA at my cost and risk possible punitive customs charges, only to find they don't work. They would also be useful for video use in my Olympus EP-5, which as it is SDHC and SDXC compliant, would almost certainly be able to use these cards. No. In fact, they should also work just fine in the M8 and M9 ... even though in these, the super-high writing speed probably is not going to be of any particular use. wlaidlaw Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 27, 2013 No. In fact, they should also work just fine in the M8 and M9 ... even though in these, the super-high writing speed probably is not going to be of any particular use. Agreed. I think the M240 writes at around 35MB/s but given that cards from various makers do not seem always to live up to their declared speeds, the large margin on these cards should always ensure that it is never the card that is the log jam. Also in that the M seems very card sensitive for start up times, these cards may result in a minor reduction in this. I was just concerned in that this seems to be a different official standard, whether the M would be compliant. Wilson
farnz Posted September 27, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2013 At 240 MB/s (really?: 240 megaBYTES per second or should that be 240 Mb/s?) your M240 might start to behave like the Nikon One and start to take pictures before you've even pressed the button. Pete.
wlaidlaw Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 27, 2013 Pete, I did wonder but I have checked some of the publicity and it all uses an upper case B for these cards, which to me means Bytes and not the lower case b of bits. It is an extraordinarily fast card if it lives up to publicity. My daughter will probably bring them across with her at Christmas time to avoid possible customs problems. Wilson PS My first M240 started to take movies before I had pressed any button so I would be quite used to super instant pics.
