james.liam Posted September 26, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 26, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have an M6 needed work, including the MP modification for a floating RF patch (.85x). Any thoughts or preferences for DAG over Sherry Kreuter or Leica? Â Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Hi james.liam, Take a look here CLA in the US?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted September 26, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted September 26, 2013 I've had the most consistently good results with DAG. I have also had work done by Sherry, who does good work, but I think DAG is best at focus calibration.
kokoshawnuff Posted September 27, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted September 27, 2013 Don is probably better than Leica with anything mechanical, and just as capable with non-digital electronics...not expensive either.
james.liam Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #4  Posted September 27, 2013 Thank you. I misspelled above; the .85 x rangefinder patch flares quite a bit. Tired of shielding it all the time. Sherry Kreuter (Golden Touch) quoted prices about 20% above DAG so I was wondering about it all. Apparently there are at least five different grades of lubricant in an M6 (who knew?) and mine dates from the mid-1980’s. Anyone use Madame Kreuter? Jeff S Posted September 27, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted September 27, 2013 Thank you. I misspelled above... Â Indeed; it's Sherry Krauter. Â She and DAG are both capable. She only does film M calibration; DAG works on film and digital AFAIK. Â Jeff
spydrxx Posted September 27, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted September 27, 2013 I've used both in the last several years (film based bodies & lenses). Sherry seemed to have a quicker turnaround time, but both far outpaced Leica Repair the few times I've used it.
james.liam Posted September 29, 2013 Author Share #7 Â Posted September 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any other repair outfit worth considering? Gus Lazzaro? There's a fellow in Massachusetts, I think Youxen Yi or something?
TomB_tx Posted September 29, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted September 29, 2013 I've had cameras serviced by both Gus and Youxin. Gus does top-notch work, but can be very slow (3 years and counting for one very rare lens). Youxin is very reasonable, and I get the impression is self-taught. Fast turn around, and I use him mainly for Leica clones and LTM lenses. He also has contacts in China for lens recoating. I still send my good stuff to DAG for good combination of turn-around and best quality.
peter_n Posted October 2, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted October 2, 2013 I've also used DAG and Youxin Ye. I like Steve Choi a lot, his last job for me was a v.1 35 Summicron (8 element) and he did a brilliant job at a reasonable price and 3 weeks turnaround. kivis Posted October 28, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted October 28, 2013 I have used Youxin Ye and was very pleased, plus his turnaround was very quick, like 10 days for a CLA of an M3. Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Herr Barnack Posted November 26, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted November 26, 2013 You can't go wrong with Sherry Krauter - Sherry Krauter.com -- Home of the Golden Touch.
spydrxx Posted November 26, 2013 Share #13 Â Posted November 26, 2013 I've used DAG for most of my work over the years, but used Sherry about 2 years ago for an M4 CLA and was quite pleased with the results. I used Youxin Ye a couple of weeks ago for an old LTM lens CLA and was pleased with the price and results. Personally, I'd contact each with regard to your particular issues and see what they say, both in terms of price and turnaround time.
