Full of dust!!!

I Just got my M8 and it's sensor is full of dust. Did anyone had the same problem?

My first one had literally dozens of spots on the sensor and these didn't blow off and I didn't have a wet cleaning kit, but that M8 had back-focusing issues and a vertically misaligned RF so back it went.

Replacement arrived yesterday and focusing is spot on yet the sensor is dirty out of the box. Luckily only a dozen spots this time! The Rocket Blower helped but there is one spot that looks like it will require more effort.

My D200 gets dust from time-to-time (but arrived clean) and generally I have been very successful with the Rocket blower, but the M8 dust seems more stubborn.

Not a huge problem, but I guess I'll have to get a wet cleaning kit for it.

However, the M8s have the first and only digital cameras to arrive new in the box with dusty sensors of the dozen or so digital cameras I've owned in the past decade.

Leica could do a better job of cleaning the sensors before packing the camera IMO.

Hi Joe- The stubborn spot is probably grease so it will require a swab/liquid combo. I use the visible dust stuff and it works really well. The sensor probably left the factory spotless but due to shipping some grease splashed around a bit. Also I have found that turning off my m8 when changing lenses keeps it pretty much dust free due to the release of the static charge at shutdown....b

Thanks for the info and the tip!

Neither of mine was particularly dusty right out of the box - but they did collect dust far more in the first few weeks than they have since. After 2-3 normal cleanings the frequency with which they need cleaning has dropped off.

May be some kind of manufacturing residue that attracts and collects dust - and eventually gets removed as part of the dust cleaning?

Shot today for 3 hours in a VERY dusty environment (see below) - and only had 3-4 specks showing up at the end.

Most of the specks here are 'real" dirt falling off the tires - not sensor thingies! But a couple of dust bunnies I just noticed right of center between the bike and ground.

Dust on sensors? It's a non-issue 95-99% of the time.

I'd take dust on sensors any day over dust on negatives when scanning or in the darkroom. That was so much more of a pain. I think sometimes people have unreal expectations of digital and have forgotten how difficult emulsion is/was to deal with.

I have to agree about the dust on negative. No matter how I clean house, scanner, negative I always seem to find particles on the scanned files.
