X Vario Half Case

I am considering a half case for my X Vario. If you have bought any of the ones from ebay or Leica, what are your thoughts. At the top is the Arte de Mano then possibly the Leica on down to various ones from China. Are any of them worth it? Are there others I am not aware of?

Hi there, I considered a case as well, however, when I realized that after fitting a case to the camera, that I couldn't use the Leica hand grip (18766), I had to abort.

I'd encourage you to decide first if you'd want to use a case or use the hand grip.

Personally, I think the camera looks better without the hand grip, but it definitely feels amazing to handle the camera with the hand grip. Oh well.

I have to agree with saibaiwei. It is a much better handling camera with the hand grip and I think the new finger loop, if it ever becomes available will make it better yet. So it really comes down to which way you want to carry it.

I ordered the Leica half case from Adorama. Works great, fits well AND has built in hand grip, sort of. For about $120 it's a good deal. Fits great and protects.

Hi Bill,

I ordered a (aged brown) half case for my X2 with Luigi in Italy and I have to say that it's not only a beauty, it fits perfect. Just look at his (amazing funny) website.

Best

Chris

I had looked at his site but he does not show the X Vario yet available unless I missed it. I actually had a Luigi for my M8 many years ago.

I am not one to use the hand grip. I have never really liked them personally. Just a case is what I am looking for and curious what others think.

I had a half case from Leica for my M8 and it was not that well made. I got rid of it and bought the Luigi. It would be nice to look at one but my local Leica dealer does not stock that much.

You are using the old Leica strap and not the one that came with the X Vario it looks like

Unusually, the Leica case is the best one I have tried.

All half cases make the XV look bigger, so I tend not to use any case for subtle street shooting.

I use it in conjunction with a Kata 433 or the Leica system case 18746.

The kata 433 (which I also use for my M9) is a small case with hard sizes, no hard edges for insertion and removal, and swivel loops for the shoulder strap so it can "never" be put on the wrong way. An excellent case. There is also a slightly improved 433DL out now.

The Leica system case is slightly smaller and more stylish. The space inside is tighter however. It is beautifully made.

I currently use an old Lowepro TLZ 1 to tote the camera around. It holds the X vario with the EVF attached and has one outisde and one inside pocket for the charger and a couple of filters. Thanks for all the info and pictures.

I'm using a strap from an older M series. Don't care for the leather straps when trying to store in a bag.

I recently bought a Think Tank City Walker 10 for general travel which seems convenient and practical for my XV ad X1. Also bought the ONA Bowery in canvas for city walking and day trips. The ONA is a nice small bag similar in form factor to the Domke X-5B but more stylish, no zippers, or Velcro.

I totally agree with you on the strap, it is nice but I prefer the old M nylon straps myself. The one included with the X Vario is much better than the one Leica includes with the M Monochrom.
