Ugh, my (new) 50 Lux isn't coded. :(

I'm looking for a little advice. I've sheepishly realized that after having my M8 and 50 Lux for about a month now, both which were purchased brand new from a local dealer in Denver, my 50 Lux isn't coded for digital (as I assumed it was). (I was looking into hand coding my CV15, and once I understood what the 'coding' involved, I immediately knew my 50 Lux wasn't... sigh.)

Is this something I can return the lens to the dealer for, after it has been used for a month? If they're still selling non-digital coded lenses, then I presume I'm out of luck on that option. Or, am I stuck sending it off to Leica to be coded? If the latter, anyone know (a) whether this is free for this particular case, and (B) what the turnaround time is?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Mark--

Leica began shipping coded lenses last July as I recall.

I'm sure your dealer was offered an opportunity to have the lens coded at Leica's expense if he had it in stock at that time. (That's only a guess, but since Leica announced publicly they would be shipping nothing but coded lenses starting from July, it would be ridiculous for the dealer to tell you--as he has done by selling you an un-coded lens--that he had it in stock before that date and simply hadn't got around to having it coded.)

In my opinion, there's no reason for him to offer to exchange it; but he should offer to get it coded for you (handling shipping and insurance).

You should check with Leica Customer Service to ask how they want you to handle it.

With proof of purchase and waranty card, I'm sure NJ will do it for you at no charge. Or you could simply talk to your dealer about it and see what he's willing to do.

As Lisa says, you can use one of the two vouchers you get for purchasing the lens to have it coded; that would be a rather dismal proposition in my opinion, but completely legitimate if you don't have two more lenses that need coding.

And as Ario says, the 50mm won't benefit as much from coding as the wider lenses will, so you really aren't missing much.

On the other hand, now's the time to get it done and get it done free. It's not expensive to have the work done later, but you should have it done because it will help the resale or trade-in value. And if the dealer offers to help with it, it will also help ease your relations with him.

Must be a new copy from an old stock i guess.

Did you pay the same price as that of coded lenses at this dealer?
