phantom Posted October 2, 2013 Share #21 Posted October 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) with curiosity I read this thread, I too was undecided whether to take or make a m9p used me. m240 is certainly the best choice! ........ I finally decided and I took me simply because I preferred to spend more money for the lenses!
Advertisement Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Hi phantom, Take a look here M-E vs.M-9p. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
yenlo Posted October 7, 2013 Share #22 Posted October 7, 2013 I´m not sure that any of the given arguments will help you as they are highly subjective: my 2 ct from why i changed back to the M9: 1.) used M9 over new M240: - this decision saved me 3400 Eur for lenses - M9 pictures ooc get me the feeling i want without LR/PS magics. I wasn´t able to get a normal looking shot out of one of the early bird m240s (todays m240 firmware seems to have improved) - for my the big shot on m240 was the possibilty of an EVF for the tele lenses. But now i got me a Visoflex III which is pure erotics :-) 2.) M9 over M9-P: - m9-p: the additional 1000 Eur got you a better glas and an ugly cap. Put a security glas protector on your M9 and enjoy the red dot design. 3.) M9 over ME: i really like the ME and the Nato olive colour, but are in need of an internal usb port as - for me - this is the only lasting solution to get card data out of the cam. Using external card devices always led to trouble, no matter wether i used a mac, winsystem or even solaris/debian etc system.
uaqpau Posted October 7, 2013 Share #23 Posted October 7, 2013 For me, the only problem with the M-E is the lack of the usb port. I always use the usb cable to download the pictures to my computer, and it has always worked great. I dont like taking continuously the card in and out of the camera. phantom Posted October 7, 2013 Share #24 Posted October 7, 2013 you're right it is a real pain in the ass all the time remove the end cap and remove the card. You know how I solved it? I pull out the card only when it is almost full (I use 8Gb). but I am not a professional and then do a few photos. ideal at this point is to have a transmitter wirless to mount in place of the flash. there is this option? tobey bilek Posted October 7, 2013 Share #25 Posted October 7, 2013 Who knows where the used camera has been and if it is perhaps stolen or has random instances of trouble. The ME has no USB port . Both have funky electronics. I like my M8 and love my chrome M9P, but it was new last year. Bought a 75 Summicron for it. Buy the ME or new M. You can buy a replacement baseplate from Luigi at http://www.leicatime.com, the M-Mate. This provides an easier way to switch out memory cards (and batteries). I haven't tried it, but looking at the pictures it could be an option....

honcho Posted October 8, 2013 Share #28 Posted October 8, 2013 ?........If you want or need the additions of the M240 then you would be far better served with a Nikon D7000 which will do everything other than ultimate image quality far better and far cheaper than a Leica M rangefinder. A rather pointless comment if the op wants a full frame rangefinder camera that uses M mount Leica lenses. One would think those who buy the M-E are 100% comfortable with their decision before purchase and unlikely to be left 'wanting' afterwards. The op really should consider how he will feel if, after buying a used M9P he could have saved for a little longer to buy a new M or M-E. The nagging discomfort of buying used, especially with the litany of technical issues that have dogged the M9/P would probably encourage a fairly rapid offload to a new camera for many people. Totally agree with your comments, except the discomfort of buying used bit. All of my cameras are used (m9-P included) and I am totally comfortable with them. I believe I am in good company as many posters here have used gear. I am inclined to suspect many new users have every bit as much nagging discomfort as well. Either way, it really is a gamble, just varying parameters. Choose your problem set seems to be the game.
leicaglow Posted October 8, 2013 Share #30 Posted October 8, 2013 M9-P is the "P series" of digital M rangefinder. I think like Leica MP or Leica M4-P in the film era. The "P series" usually have they own price and own value for money in the future. So I bought Leica M9-P about 9 weeks ago, the used silver M9-P in mint condition and only 83 actuation, and still under warranty until August 2014. I bought used M9-P more expensive than new Leica M-E, since I think "P series" have they own price and value for money in the future.
